Insulin Resistance Test

by kindergal, Sep 28, 2007 07:42PM
I am going this week for my Insulin Resistance Test.  Yuck!  What should I expect?  They told me it would take a minimum of 3 hours and I cannot leave the Dr. office.  The nurse said to bring a book and some bottled water.  I am afraid it will make me sick.....
How long were you required to fast?  The nurse said do not eat anything the night before....I asked her to be specific...12 hours or more??  She just said the night before....

hi im 25, ttc and insuilin resistant with pcos and i had my tests done only a month or 2 ago. i am in australia but i presume the tests are the same. i just fasted from my dinner onwards. i felt like a human pin cushion when i had these tests but apart from that it wasnt too bad.
I had to have 3 tests. one at 9am, then i had to drink this horrid glucose green filthy super ridiculously sweet drink, then an hour later another test, then an hour later another test. they are checking to see how your body discards the insulin. i then came back later that afternoon to have another test. it wasnt too bad but definately take a book or magazine. I didnt feel sick just light headed and a bit aaggghhh from the drink.
I am now on 500mgs metformin x2 daily. due to ovul tonight hopefully (if its working yet?)... going out for dh's birthday so might bd when we get back.. hope this is the one!
ssbd to you all - hope this helps, feel free to ask any more questions.
lorri xx
