Laproscopy vs. IUI &IVF

by bengalib, Aug 28, 2008 09:57AM
When should you go for laproscopy vs. IUI -injectibles?  We have been trying for over 2 years.  Clomid was not successful and our doctor is jumping for us to go to IUI -injectibles.  Before getting into this process, we wanted to explore the option of laproscopy... but I am scared.  When should I consider this before IUI -injectibles? Shouldn't the Fertility doctor suggest this as a treatment prior to proceeding?  What are the side affects?

IUI+injectables is less invasive than a lap.  However, a lap can possibly discover and eliminate a problem (if there is one) that can make IUI more successful.  I had a lap and it was an easy surgery for me.  I was back to normal in about 3 days.
Good luck to you!

Hello!  well everyone is different and its of course a personal choice.. but i would think that most of the time people will proceed to IUI and injectables before a lap.... most of all becuase IUI is not "invasive" while a lap is, and of course with any surgery a lap does have risks (though normally is a pretty simple surgery to recover from )    As long as you've had an HSG (where your tubes are open and patent) i would think most RE's would go forward with IUI.. maybe do a lap before IVF or after a failed IVF.. but many times dr's are looking for endo via lap.. and there is debate if cleaning up the endo if you don't have an endometrioma (which if you did should be visable by transvag ultrasound) is even helpful at all..but if you have signs of endo then it might be worth it.. Many people on here do injectables with IU iand get preg! : ) we did but unfortuantely miscarried at 9.5 weeks... the only side effects i have from that is a mild headache.
i also had a lap, but the only reason was because they found an endometrioma that was large and had to come out... it was a very easy recovery and only used one painpill!  GOOD LUCK let us know if you have any other questions!
