Lupron and Infertility

by Faith2_22, Nov 05, 2009 03:36PM
I am 38 years old and will be starting on fertility medication tomorrow.  I have been told by the nurse that I will begin Lupron in the p.m. and the next morning I will continue to use Lupron 2 x per day simultaneously with gonal-f and  menopur.  I am confused as to why i wouldn't be on Lupron solely for a week.  That is what I have read in all IVF cycles.  Is there a reason why I will begin ALL of the fertility drugs at once?  I was on the birth control pill for 21 days, which has just ended three days ago.  is it unusual for a patient to have all of these meds without first taking Lupron for one week by itself?

Do you have an opinion?

Thank you.

I believe RE chose the best protocol for each person.
I have one cycle only have birth control without lupron, another cycle only lupron without BC, and both cycles I got about the same number of embryos and got pg but end up ectopic.
This cycle, I have both BC and lupron.
I stop BC on 10/31 (14 day of BC), and stop lupron last night (9 days of lupron), tonight I'm going to have follistim+menopur.  ER will be arount 11/16.  When is yours?

Well, I just got back from Dr. and was told to start Lupron tonight, continue tomorrow and start the Gonal F and Menopur tomorrow as well.  Back to Dr. on Monday for blood and sonogram and from there we will see how I am progressing. I will most likely have the ER within the next 13 days or so if all blood tests and sonograms are fine.   Good luck to you!!!!!  It is a crazy ride but it is worth it!
