by Anna03, May 22, 2008 06:24AM
Hi everybody,
I need some help. I have taken my first round of clomid days 5-9 of this cycle. I started the opk 2 days after the last pill. I am now on day 21 of my cycle and the opk are still coming up negative. is it possilbe to not ovulate on clomid. I thought the whole point was to ovulate.. or could I be late in ovulating.. I usually ovulate on cd18... Help....

God Bless

hi ya. i on clomid now on 3 tabs which is 150mg. yet some times i dont ovalate. you should have a blood test on day 21 see what your progestrene level is. if it under 10 you probably havent. my test go from 9 to 55 on clomid so it differs from each cycle. so dont be worrying. i also ovulate about 16-18 days too. i did get preg but have m.c. but fingers crossed it happen once it happen again.

My first round of clomid I did not ovulate.  RE started me on a small dose 50mg and we slowly worked up to 200mg.  I did ovulate with 100mg the next month, but only had one follicle that was not to big.  How much clomid are you taking?  You may want to check about taking a little more.  Best wishes to you.

I have had cycles on Clomid where I ovulate up to a week late. However, the doctor that prescribed you the CLomid should be doing something to check.  First of all, around cycle day 14 you need to be having an ultrasound done to see if you are developing mature follicles. If the ultrasound shows that you have mature follicles the doctor can give you an HCG trigger shot that will make you ovulate for sure so you can bypass the trigger. If the doctor you are seeing is not doing this monitoring, just me, but I would find a new doctor. Are you seeing a reproductive endocrinologist, (RE)??  You want to make sure that you are being monitored because otherwise you dont know if the time and effort that you are putting in to each clomid cycle has the potential to pay off. Also, if the monitoring shows that things are not satisfactory, then they can raise your dose of Clomid to a higher dose that should make you ovulate.

Also, one more tip.  Clomid can decrease the amount of cervical mucus you have. This is bad.  To help, what I did was take Mucinex starting the last day of the clomid and ending the day I ovulate, you must stop this day.  This will thin your mucus and make it a better enviroment for the sperm to travel in.  You need to be sure that the mucinex you take is plain old Mucinex, the only ingredient it can have in it is Guaifenissen (sp?), make sure there are no other ingredients or it could be counterproductive to take it.  I know that doing this really helped me.

Thanks girls for you comments. I feel better that I am no alone, but bummed that I may not ovulate this month. My husband and I have been TTC for about a year now and this is the first month that I will have not ovulated. I am not seeing an RE yet. My obgyn started me on 50mg of clomid this month and wanted me to try them for 3 months before referring me to an RE. I did call me doctor yesterday to tell him about this and they had me go in for blood work. I am not sure what they are testing but will have the results hopefully today.. I will keep you all posted.

Good luck to you all and God bless you all with healthy babies soon...

I never ovulated on clomid.  I started out with 50mg, and increased up to 150mg.  My OB/GYN wasn't monitoring me at all to see if I was or wasn't ovulating, and I didn't know enough at the time to ask.  I started seeing an RE, and he monitored me very closely during my cycle, doing ultrasounds to check for mature follicles.  Then, he gave me the HCG trigger to make me ovulate.  Unfortunately I did not get pregnant with the clomid, but we switched to femara, and did IUI, and that did the trick for us.  But I really feel that the RE was much more knowledgeable, and tried several different combinations to see what would work for us.  After almost 6 years of ttc unsuccessfully, the RE had us pregnant within 9 months.  I love my RE!  I wish you the best of luck, and am sending lots of baby dust your way!

The blood work may be for progesterone.  A week after my HCG shot/ovulation I have a progesterone blood test done to confirm ovulation.  RE likes to see a number over 10 to confirm ovulation and over 15 on a medicated/clomid cycle.
