Yes you can conceive with one tube. I have one friend who conceived four children with no problem with only one. Your ovaries are supposed to take turns ovulating each month but sometimes they will ovulate from one side more than once. I have only one tube open and I was lucky as we were trying IUI and I ovulated from that side three times in a row. I was told by my RE that there have been cases where a tube was missing but the ovary was still there and the egg found its way over to the side with the good tube. Also, I had one friend with both tubes blockedBlocked tear duct and she got pregnant two different times. You are doing the right thing going to an RE. He will evaluate you according to your age and what steps he feels you should take.
I agree. There are many, many posters here with only one tube that have gotten pg. The ovaries do take turns. With stimulating meds, you may o from both sides to increase your chances, too. The RE is a good place to start.
I have only 1 tube and just like you, I conceived my 3 year-old one the 1st month of trying... and an HSG reveiled a blocked tube after we had been trying for over a year without any little brother or sister for my boy.
I went the IVF road because I kept hearing that this was pretty much my only hope... we did everything right but the 2 embryos that were put back did not "stick" . After that, I read somewhere that you only needed 1 tube to conceive so I got a prescription for Clomid (100mg) and took it days 5-9... and got a BFP! I was super excited but anxisou too cause I had had an ectopic before... so I got a bHCG blood test to confirm my pregnancy. It was normal. But 2 days later, I had it done again (to make sure it wasn't ectopic) but this time, the result was negative, meaning I was no longer pregnant!!!
I was disapointed but also relieved that I HAD CONCEIVED WITH ONLY 1 TUBE WORKING.
So go for it! Wait until you have done EVERYTHING else and be patient before going the IVF route... it's expensive, psychologically and physically draining AND there are no garantees that it will work
Thank you all so much for what you had to say. I normally don't post but I do read allot and follow stories. You guys are AWESOME and I appreciate all the positive info. I am supposed to hear back from my RE tomorrow to go with a new game plan. I guess I just felt like haveing one tube blocked was another set back in our fertility journal and was haveing a pity party for myself. After reading what you guys had to say I feel better and am ready to proceed. I am sure that it will happen for all of us. It couldn't happen to a better bunch of women who don't know much about eachother but are so warm and supportive to each other. Thank you so much again. Aleksandra
