Question about HCG level still at 83 2 weeks after D&C

by Jennifer3940, Jun 09, 2009 12:48PM
I had a D&C May 22 and had my 2 week post check yesterday.  They checked my HCG level and it is still at 83.  How long does it take to come down??  How long should it take to have a regular period again??

First of all I am sorry to hear about your D&C, I had one back in Oct., so I understand how your feeling. It seemed like forever for the HCG level to drop back to 0-I am thinking it took at least 3 weeks if not a little longer as for the normal period after, I can't remember exactly how long that was I can't remember if it started when the # was 0 or if I had to wait, but it was right back on schedule the following month for me. Hope this helps!

Jennifer- I too am still very sorry about your loss! I'm happy to have gotten your note today, and I'm glad you're ready to start trying again! Good for you! :) Let's see, when I had my d&c in '05, I never had my levels checked afterwords, but I remember I got a regular AF exactly 6 weeks after my d&c. I think that's pretty normal and what they'll usually tell you, is that it will come around 6 weeks after. Are they having you come back so they can check your levels again? It may come sooner, and I hope it does so you can start trying again asap! Good luck sweetie, and I've really been thinking about you, so I'm glad you're back! :) (HUGS)

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.  I did not know.  I had a D&C on April 30th and I had my levels checked on May 21 or 22 and it was 14 so it took 3 weeks to get down to that number.  Then I had it checked two weeks later, last Friday, and it was 4.8.  I just got af today and six weeks would have been this Thursday so I think Luvkayln was right, it takes about 6 weeks to get af back.  I am glad that you are ready to try again.  I am also going to do IVF to try again.  Good luck!

I am sorry for what you are going through.  Unfortunately I know!  When I had my DC&E in December it took a month for those levels to go down to negative.  When the numbers return to the neg.'s you will get your period again.  I went to acupuncture and it helped.  I don't know if you would be willing to try it, but I went in with pos. numbers on one day and the next day my blood test showed that it returned to neg.  I also went once bc I was late for my period (and not bc I was pg) and the very next day, I got it!  Best of luck to you!
