Question about luteal length and testing

by SueGre, Jun 08, 2009 02:32PM
Hi Girls,

I'm 6 dpo today and feeling nothing, which is actually encouraging to me since I usually feel a lot, like cramps and sore bbs. I had cramps up until 2 days ago and my bbs are barely sore, pretty much only when I press on them.

I O'ed pretty late this cycle, on cd17. If AF is usually 29 or so days, then I will have it (or not!) around 12 dpo. Is that a way too short luteal phase? Do I stand a chance if it does end up being that short? If my luteal phase is short but okay, then can I start testing earlier? Like on 9 or 10 dpo? Is this confusing?

Sue,

A luteal phase should be anywhere between 10-13 days, but a dr likes to see more then 10 days. Are you temping? The baby will implant anywhere around 10dpo. No hcg would show up before that happens! Some people have lower HCG to so you would test like everyone else. MOst people with longer cycles it is thier folicular phase which is longer not the luteal phase which pretty much stays the same unless there is something wrong. I have 26 day cycles and O on day 15-16 and I am ok dr says. If you temp and see an implantation dip or a second rise then you could be pregnant! Temping is a wonderful thing!

I don't temp although I know it's a good way to keep up on things. I've just never gotten into it. I try to do as little as possible to help lower the stress of TTC. I judge O time by my ewcm, we BD, then I test around 10-12 dpo. But this cycle seems like it will be shorter. AF is due on 12 dpo (?). I wondering if I even have a shot this month since my cycle is so short.

What do you girls think? Do I have a shot this month, even with a shorter cycle?

if you ovulated earlier or later than you normally do - your luteal phase should still be 14 days.

My cycles are normally always 34 days long and I ovulate on cd 20.  This month I don't know what is going on - cd 20 was on Saturday - I have been testing for ovulation since Tuesday and no smiley face.  I think I O'ed on 5/30 or 5/31 this month as I had O pain and ewcm from 5/29-5/31.  And since today I have been crampy and my bbs are hurting.  So I have no idea what my deal is this month I guess I only have a few more days to wait and see what happens.  I may just take an HPT tomorrow to see what that tells me as if I did O on 5/29 Af should be here the weekend Monday the latest.

Thanks for your response. If I O'ed on Tuesday 6/2 and I'm 12 dpo on Saturday and AF is due on Saturday, doesn't that make my luteal phase only 12 days? Or, should I expect AF to come later since I O'ed later?

Sorry, I'm just still a bit confused...

Hey, good luck if you test tomorrow! I've got everything crossed for you!

You should expect AF to come later - is your luteal phase always 14 days?

I know from when I went to my fertility dr and my cycles were 32-35 days and I did injections it made me o earlier so I was to expect my cycle earlier.

I don't know. I'll have to consult my calendar. Back in a sec...

Looks like my luteal phase has been mostly 13-14 days long. So, if I O'ed on 6/2 and AF is due 14 days later, then she would be due to arrive on 6/15, which would be 13dpo. That seems too short to me. Am I misunderstanding something? Jeez, you think I would know all this after all this time!

My bbs just started burning and getting really sore up by my armpits. First time this cycle. Usually they feel this way starting on 1 dpo and then everyday until AF shows. Hope it means something good that it's been delayed. Also, I had 3 big iced coffees today and I feel so sleepy. Work was slow today and the weather is gloomy, so that's probably why :0)

Yes if you O'ed on 6/2 then 13 dpo would be 6/15 so af should be there 6/15-6/16...

I am cd 24 have been testing for smiley face since cd 16 as i always get my smiley face cd 19-cd20 and af always is here cd 34.  This month I think I o'ed earlier than normal due to the o pain and ewcm.  so then af should be here by monday the latest for me - so I may just wait it out and test on tuesday.  I have a call into my gyn to see if she can order a test to see if indeed ovulation occured etc.  As for me I have been crampy the last couple days in my lower back and very low on my belly and bbs are starting to feel tender - lastnight my bbs were itching so bad I was ready to rip them off - LOL
