SA Confusion- Please someone give me your opinion

by Hoping4_2, Sep 04, 2008 05:08PM
Ok, so my DH just got his SA back. According to the one he had 4 years ago and this one his count has gone down, his morphology has gone up and his motility has improved. How is that? He has clumping issues whick cause the motility issues, and if that is getting worse how is motility getting better? I'm confused and do not want to creat false hope for myself.

So here is what he has

Volume 2
Count 247,000,000
Appearance Gray /Trans
Viscosity Mucoid (meaning clumping)
WBC 0-2 (White Blood Cell Count) Too high causes the clumping issues.
%Motile 64
Non Motile 36
Forward Motile 2
Normal Sperm 77
Neck 4
Tail 6

TODAY
Volume 2
Count 123,500,000
Appearance Grey/Trans
Viscosity Increased (not sure what that means)
WBC 6-10
Motile 80%
Forward Motile 4+
Normal Sperm 56%
Neck 10%
Tail 4%

It seems like it's better now. Hey maybe it's because of the baby in the bottle LOL. I have no idea. SA confuse me so much. They should just keep it simple- count, mobility and morphology.

I know, it looks good except that the WBC is up and that's what causes the clumping. But then the motility is up which is good, because the clumping causes poor motility. I wish they would just say, good and bad next to them.

That would definatly be alot easier. Do you have an appt to go over the results and get answers?

by Hoping4_2, Sep 04, 2008 08:21PM
No, they just mailed the results to us, like we would know what it all means...LOL. DH is going to call tomorrow and see if they will go over it with him.

that's good. I would be really confused if they just sent that to me. Our RE explains the SA in terms of cars and darts. I love it. He makes it easy to understand ;)

Hoping~ I'm glad he got another test! At least he has alot of them a swimmin, his motile sperm look great! 80% of 123 million! Thats a bunch! My DH only had 59 million his last count (went up from 26) and only 56% motile, and you know how it turned out for us~

Ok, just to add more confusion I asked the RE for their results since they are the ones who say we can't get PG without IVF. This one done after the first one and before the last one. The numbers are very different here.

Jan 2007.

Volume        2
Viscosity    3
Count        20 million/ml
Total count    40.3 million
Total motile sperm    14.2 million
Total progressive motility    35%
progressively rapid        16%
Velocity distribution:
    rapid        33%
    medium    2%
    slow        6%
    static    59%
% normal forms, kruger strick morphology    7%
Antibody assay:
    IgG        1% (negative
IgA        49% bound    (positive)

Have you and DH ever done IUI? I dont remember. It seems like his count has changed alot. Definatly for the better :)

by Hoping4_2, Sep 05, 2008 04:51PM
No we have not. We were told IVF was our only hope, but looking at these tests, even the one the RE (who told us that) did looks like we have a 10% chance huh????  I'll take that. It says 16% move progressivly rapid, which is good I guess right? So then IUI might work for us. Definatly would be more affordable. He is going to see another specialist for a 2nd opinion.

It would be nice to conceive naturally, but IUI would be alot more affordable. Hopefully you can at least do IUI. Do you have a follow up consult with your RE?
