Severe bloating, pain and Heparin

by Maria2707, Nov 03, 2008 12:57PM
Let me give you a brief update. I am all bloated up  since 8 days past embryo transfer. Pregnancy test came positive and doctor said the bloating due to fluid accumulation in the abdomen is because of the HCG hormones.Today is day 16 past transfer. I have been suffering past one week and tummy looks like I am 5 months pregnant. Yesterday, I was rushed to ER because of pain in my legs. Doc thought it was clots but luckily that was ruled out. While I was there they removed 1600ml of fluid from my tummy. It was very painful. Though I felt better for a day, fluid has started to accumulate again. Since all these fluids are coming from the blood, my doc is worried that my blood is thickening and prescribed blood thinner, Heparin shots twice a day. Is this safe? Has anyone taken this medication when they were pregnant. I am so worried with what is going on. Did anyone go through this bloating and how long did this last?

Maria,
I am bloated but not as bloated as you are. I was so bloated last week that my legs were cramping up and my pants would not fit. I had to wear sweatpants to work. The only think I did was relax and not think  about it. I'm still a little bloated but not as bloated as before... plus I'm very gassy. I would tell the doc to watch your HCG levels closer and make sure none of the drugs will affect the baby. Keep your herself hydrated.

I too experienced lot of cramping and bloating when I was pregnant (had a natural m/c at 6weeks). But I also experienced leg pain a lot that would not go away, first it started in my left side then on my right side.I was rushed to ER, they did an u/s and found fluid, they just gave me pain killers and told me not to worry it will go on its own. I was taking also baby aspirin to thin my blood but was not given Heparin? I am sure your Dr knows your situation more than us and will not recommend something that will harm your baby. But don't worry the pain will go away. Just out of curiosity, how many eggs did they remove? for me it was 24 this is why I ahd such pain cause my ovaries were hyper stimulated. Hope this was a bit helpful. Take it easy and Good luck!

Thank you girls!! It makes me feel better. I feel better today. I have started to get leg cramps too. I did take a shot of heparin last night and it was 5000 units/1ml vial. I was not sure if I was supposed to take one ml or half. Doc thought I would get the prefilled syringe from the pharmacy but they had only vials. I called the hospital and left a message still waiting for their call back.

I had many follicles, but they could retrieve 18 eggs. So the hyper stimulation I guess.
