Side effect of Clomid?

by AngelElizabeth, May 21, 2007 12:00AM
I am 27 years old. I became pregnant at 18 and lost our child. I got pregnant again with my son when I was 19 and had him when I was 20. My husband and I started trying again shortly after he was born. Due to my lack of ovulation, it was very difficult. Much to our suprise 5 years later, I became pregnant. Unfortunatly, it was an etopic pregnancy, found at 9 1/2 weeks. We were unable to treat it with medication and required major surgery, removing one of my tubes. We have tried on and off for the last 2 years. I had a lap done to make sure my remaining tube was functioning properly and it was. My OB/GYN has started me on 100mg of Clomid (due to lack of ovulation...I haven't had a period in over a year) I took 100mg days 5-9. We were suppose to have scheduled sex days 11-16. We did have sex before our "scheduled" time, I believe on days 4,7,and 9. On day 12 I started spotting (brownish-pink), not much only a bit when I wipe after urinating. I did not need any sort of protection. I am on day 15 now and still spotting (red, and a little heavier. Not like a period.) Is this normal with 100mg of Clomid or is something I should be worried about?

Hey i don't know if i will be very helpful. I was on clomid for 3 months, and i never had any mid month spotting.  But that doesn't mean that yours is not from the clomid, maybe some people have that. Also i know some people say they have spotting mid month due to ovulation. You might want to just ask your doctor about it to be sure. Sorry i can't be of more help.

Just spoke w/the Dr.  He said it was most likely due to ovulation so nothing to worry about :-)

I was hoping you'd get more responses. I just started my 1st round and was curious.

Did they induce a period before you started the clomid.  If not, you will have a very thick endometrium if you haven't had a period in over a year.  That might explain the spotting.

I have taken clomid for 4 cycles and have never experienced spotting, but I am on a much lower dose (12.5 mg).

If it does stop, I would call your dr.  Best of luck to you.
