Started metformin and clomid first time today!

by ntaylor, Sep 01, 2007 11:51AM
Hi guys! I wanted to let those of you who read my posts lately that I am starting to take met and clomid today. I talked with my RE and begged for met. He said, ok but let's do a fasting blood sugar level first. I did, and low and behold it was a little elevated at 97. Anything above 90 he said indicates insulin resistance. So thanks for giving me the support to tell him what I wanted and what I thought. Thank God I didn't just let it go. I really think this is what I need.
Also, I'm starting at 500 mg tabs twice a day for a week, then up to 1500 per day then 2000 by the third week. I know this is a higher dose to start out with. Any experience with side effects and when they go away? I took 500 mg about an hour and a half ago and so far I'm ok, just a little diarhea (diarrhea). And what should I expect from clomid? Thanks!

I have my insulin resistance test in October...that is the earliest they could do it.  So, I have no info. on that..
As for the Clomid, I have had two months on 50mg--First month I had NO problems.  The second month I was very grouchy and hot!!  It could also have to do with fact we were having 100ยบ degree days!!!
Good luck to you...

This is my first time on clomid and I'm taking 100mg days 3-7. Is that odd to start me out so high? I already ovulate but have recurrent miscarriages, and I don't ovulate till very late so that's why I'm taking it. Hmm... And is it normal my ovaries feel like they hurt already? Or is that in my head? That's crazy you have to wait until October! I'm sorry. Thanks for the advice I will always eat.

This RE is supposed to be one of the best...thus the long time to get in to see him.  AND they only do one person a day for the insulin resistance test....so they fill up quickly.
I have heard others starting out @100mg...perhaps with your history they figure that is best...Are they doing the Clomid Challenge Test with you--Taking blood at Day 3,  Day 11, and again one week after ovulation???  I also ovulate on my own and ovulate late.  I still ovulate late on 50mg.  I have to do 100mg next month to do the Clomid Challenge Test...then back to 50 mg the next month.

Well that's good. The waiting is hard. I feel like I'm always waiting for something...

I'm not doing the clomid challenge, I just am supposed to test with OPK's and get a progesterone blood test a week after that. That's interesting that you still ovulate late on 50. I'm hoping it will be quicker for me this time because my husband's going out of town day 15 of my cycle, and comes back day 18.
