Symptoms After HSG

by Maredy, Jun 27, 2009 03:02PM
Hello,

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 4 years. I am 25 years old and early this year, I was diagnosed with PCOS. I was performed a hysterosalpingogram on the 2nd week of June and I've been taking Metform for almost 3 weeks. I have noticed that I've been discharging a clear/white sticky and elatically looking mucus, slight increase in the release of gas, frequent clear urination, and pelvic pain on my lower left and sometimes right side. I already saw my GYN and she told me that this could be a sign of ovulation. My GYN has withdrawn blood from me to check my Estrogen level and I'm hoping that this means that I'll be able to determine when I'm ovulating. I have always had a hard time determining when I'm ovulating due to changes in my menstraul cycles. For example, I had my period this month on June 3rd but last month I got my period on May 8th. I'm not sure if any of this is normal and I have never really mastered how to predict my most fertile days. I've even considered having IVF but I really want to conceive the most natural way possible.  Any professional advice provided to me is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi,
First I wanted to thank you for your kind words! I truely appreciate them. My cycles are regular so I pretty much know when I ovulate. But the best way is to document when you get your periods for 3 months and count the days from period to period each month. That will give you an idea of how long your cycles are. So looks like from May 8th to June 3rd your cycle was 27 days..My cycles are 27 days to (sometimes but rarely 28 days) so that means I ovulate on day 13 (counting day one as the 1st day of your period) Once you know your cycles you can get an ovulation prediction kit..I like the digital smiley face ones and start testing and once your LH surge is detected you get a smiley face. Which means you will ovulate in the next 24 to 48hrs..I used the prediction kit for 3 months and I got pregnant on my 3rd month..Well I hope some of this info is helpful. You are young and I know there are things that can help you ovulate every month..Unless you have other fertility issues IVF should be your last option. (its expensive) ..Well I wish you all the luck in your journey to becoming a mother!
Love,
Lily

Hello Lily,

Thank you also for your kind words and the useful information you've given me. I would also like to thank you for the friend request....  :-)

The ovulation signs that I saw for the first time this month will definitely help me plan for conception. I just hope they continue showing up (ovulation signs). I think it was a combination of the HSG & Metformin that helped me ovulate better but I"m not sure and I haven't asked my doctor yet. Recently she did give me a call to let me know that the blood work she did on me to check my estrogen level...came out positive...which in other words meant that I had ovulated...Hearing this was great....and even though I'm relatively young...and still have the possiblity of becoming a mommy....I'm just afraid of not doing the proper things to time my fertile days and overall ovulation....then years going by and still no take home baby....I've been trying for 4 going on 5 years....In my immediate family, I'm the first to ever have problems conceiving....I can understand now more than ever how frustrating, time consuming, and heart braking this mission can turn out to be for some women...who want one but can't...or who can but something always gets in the way....
