Update on my abdomen

by cheesy-spoosh, Feb 16, 2007 12:00AM
So, i called my RE and it appears that i have OHSS pretty badly, to the point it is affecting my breathing.  My stomach was so huge, round, and hard and i couldn't fit into any of my pants.  I have had my feet elevated for 11 hours..  When i talked to the nurse she said she did not want to get my hopes up, but this might be a good thing. . . meaning i could be pregnant.  We will have to wait 9 more days to see.  They don't know how long this will last, but it shouldn't get any worse now that i know what not to do, like drink water.

Ovarian Hyper stimulation syndrome- basically your ovaries and follicles fill with fluid and in some cases your abdomen fills with fluid. there is a lot of pressure, bloating, and weight gain.

You might want to call your RE to confirm that they don't want you to drink water as you stated - unless they suggested that you drink gatorade or some other clear fluid instead.  The fact that you have so much fluid in your body means that your blood is thicker than usual because the fluid is leaking out.  Drinking water will help to keep things flowing as they should, reducing your chances of dangerous side effects.  Again, obviously listen to your physician, but I would call them to confirm that you didn't misunderstand them.  Typically, they will have you increase your fluids quite a bit.

If your not comfortable calling your RE again, look online.  There are several sites discussing what you should do.

Good luck!  I know this can be miserable.
