Why so many ovarian cysts w/meds?

by scribble02, Feb 12, 2008 08:25PM
As far as I know I have never had an ovarian cyst until I started taking fertility drugs.  My first ovulation induction/iui on clomid was unsuccessful.  I had 5 follicles all good sizes but no pregnancy and produced one cyst.  My the doctor would not let me start another cycle until the cyst went away.  My second cycle on gonal f/iui was unsuccessful.  I had 8 follicles, no pregnancy and now I have three cysts and have to lose another month or two waiting for them to go away.  I realize the cysts are caused by follicles that did not mature enough to release an egg but I am getting upset to have to lose time.  I am 43 and I know my chances for success are low.  Do most people get cysts from all the drugs?

i have also never had a cyst except for when i was pregnant which is pretty common. i was on 150 mg of clomid in december and when i went for that u/s to see how many follicles they found a 10 cm cyst on my ovary i had to have surgery to remove it and it was caused by the clomid and the fact that my ovary was embeded into the wall of my abdomen so now i am on the pill for three months so that i DONT get pregnant until i have and HSG done grrrr. its a pain but hopefully in the end it will be worth it, im not sure why it happens but it happens alot to alot of women sorry im not much help i just wanted to tell you you arent alone:)

I got them from Clomid, too. Nothing major, just time consuming. The last one was "functional" as the dr called it and it made my body think I was pg so I had a 50day cycle without o! Geeze! I am going to try Femara this cycle. It is said to not cause cysts so much. The overstimulation is the cause of the cysts.
