beta test inconclusive

by hoping for baby, Sep 19, 2007 04:20PM
I had my beta test today and just received the results.  My HCG level was only a 7 and my estrogen level dropped below 30 with a progesterone level at 16.  The doctor said that he has seen hcg levels rise and wrote out a script for estrogen supplements and said to continue with my progeserone injections-my next appointment is scheduled for Friday for another bloodtest.  Doctor said based on my age, quality of eggs transferred, etc, that he (we) should remain "cautious, yet optimistic.

Secondly, my hcg trigger shot was exactly 15 days ago and I purchased a hpt test reads "pregnant".  Did anybody have a similar situation?  Is this most likely a chemical pregnancy?  I am driving myself  crazy.

Hi,

We are in the same boat. May I ask, how old are you?  My HCG number is really low too, and they asked me not to be excited but continue the progesterone. They said it could be a "chemical pregnancy."

God, please help us!

30 how old are you? What was your hcg level? My Dr said it might be a chemical pregnancy meaning the embryo implanted but failed to develop. I'm supposed to contiune the progesterone shots until Friday and take estrogen pills. It's so heartbreaking. You can't even get a definite yes or no for closure. I did take a home pregnancy test and it was positive so I'm guessing the hcg didn't leave my system yet.

I am 35.  I think the HCG already left the system.  The nurse told me the same thing that it implanted but somehow stopped. I did the HPT on Saturday, BFN!!!  However, the test was purchased a year ago.  The comparison line did not show up I think there might be some problem with the stick.

I also asked the nurse if there was any one who started with a low HCG and pregnant and she said one.

I know it is so painful.  I was prepared for my FET already now I am back in this hope.

Good luck!

Most HPT won't detect a level under 25 however I did have a positive HPT with a HCG level of 11.  My pregnancy ended soon after unfortunately.  Maybe...you're HCG level is quickly rising and that's why you were able to get a positive HPT?!?  I surely hope that's the case!  Best wishes!!!

yes, I had a similar situation. Had my first IVF in June, started getting positive hpts at 2 weeks after hcg trigger.  But then my first beta was only 5.  My RE said the same thing, stay on the estrogen and progesterone. He said to be cautiously optimistic also. . . well when i went back for my second beta it had dropped to a 3.  :(  It was very difficult and sad. . . But i have also heard of people starting with a low number and having a successful pregnancy. . . .So I really wish you sticky baby dust and good news at your next beta!

I'm hoping you'll get good news at your next beta...you'll be in my thoughts and prayers!

Thank you to everyone! It's so hard and heartbreaking. I wish you all the very best with your journeys!!! Also, how many times have any of you done IVF? We didn't have any embryos to freeze so we'd have to start all over. Just wondering. It's hard to even think of going through it all over again.

Yes, it is so hard.  But you will be stronger than you think.  This is my 2nd IVF.  First one also day 5 without any for freeze.  My first cycle was rather simple and easy, only two shots per day, follistim and low dose HCG.  2nd cycle I had to do 3 to 4 shots per night, follistim, repronix and lupron. The 1 follistim leftover was not enough so I took a new one every other night so there were four shots.  After a while you will be used to it.  You are only 30, your chance is excellent!

Best wishes!

hi this is all new to me... what is a beta?

by 40smama, Sep 20, 2007 02:31AM
Beta is beta hcg - it's a blood test that measures that amount of beta hcg (a hormone) that is in your system to tell if you're pg.  It gives a number and if you're pg the number approx. doubles every 48 hours.

My HCG started low too!  It was 15 on 15DPIUI.   I got a positive on an HPT the day before, so you know the day before the beta it was less than 15.   Those HPTs are picking up very early!!    Even though it may say at 25IUI, it's picking up earlier than that.   FRER picked my HCG up at 6.

Perhaps your HCG is rising , the digitals are set to be higher than the non digitals.

Try testing again on a cheap test and test for a few days and see if it darkens you might be able to tell if HCG is increasing, that might help until your next beta???

I got clear blue easy and it came up "pregnant." But my beta blood work was a 7 so the nurse said maybe a chemical pregnancy since my estrogen and progesterone dropped so low. I only had half of the recommended hcg trigger shot for IVF b/c I was over stimulating. So wouldn't it be out of my system by now? I go for more blood work tomorrow, I'm actually sick of this. Thank you for sharing your story. You gave me my first ray of hope! Are you pregnant now? How many times did it take for you to conceive?

Hello:) Your story sounds so similar to what I'm going through right now. I went in on 18 Oct and got my beta and it was only a 10. I did another blood test on 20 Oct and it was 41. I haven't had any bleeding or anything though which i heard is a good sign. I'm supposed to get another blood test 24 Oct. I'm praying for a miracle! Let me know how you progress:)
