by nobi33, Nov 15, 2007 02:43PM
i am 33 years old and had a miscarriage in march and since have been trying for 7 months.  my doctor ran some tests one being day three fsh and it came back at a 13.  she referred me to a infertitlity specialist. i decided to look it up on the internet since i had no idea what it meant.  i am now feeling really depressed. everything i have read makes it sound like i have no chance. does anyone else know anything about borderline fsh levels?

Hi there,
I posted some time ago about this issue - if you look back there was a long thread titled 'high FSH' or something like that.  At that time I had had a FSH level of 10.6.  Given that I am 37 the doctor said that the combination of age and my FSH level meant that I was unlikely to ever have another child (I have one who is 18 months and a miscarriage earlier in the year).  However after two months of feeling really down about myself at my next doctors appointment my next blood results for that time period showed two months worth of normal FSH levels!  So it turned out that I didn't have high FSH after all - which i was very pleased about but wished that the doctor had warned me that FSH levels really fluctuate and you shouldn't be concerned by just one mildly high reading.
I have been on clomid now for the last 4 months and might have to do IVF if it doesn't work in the next two months.  So anyway don't go by just one reading - make sure they take a few.  Also there is a forum dedicated to the issue and you will find lots of help there (http://www.network54.com/Forum/209394/). Also your age is working in your favour too.
good luck.
