clomid by mouth

by BabyMamas09, Jan 11, 2009 07:35PM
Hi girls! I'm a new member...looking for support. My partner and I are just starting this journey. She tried for many years before we met, but was unsuccessful. Unfortunately, her eggs were no longer viable. Now, it's my turn. I'm 35; just had my first IUI and found out it failed this weekend. I'm kinda bummed out cause my period is about to start. I get it every 27 days....clockwork. I will be calling my dr. tomorrow to start planning for my next cycle. I am considering taking fertility drugs. Has anyone been on Clomid, by mouth and had good results or heard of anyone having positive results? know about side effects? I would prefer not to take the injectables, as they are unafordable and much more expensive than the sperm vials we must order every month now.

Thanks to all and good wishes to all of you trying to conceive..

Hi.  Sorry about your iui!  I know it's a bummer when you know AF (your period) is about to start.  I took Clomid for 5 cycles & my side effects were hot flashes & I did get a little more sensitive.  I was told that some women get extremely moody, though, so warn your partner ahead of time! :)  Be aware also that Clomid can thin your uterine lining & if it's too thin, an embryo won't attach.  I learned this after stopping the Clomid!  Your doc might also check your progesterone & if it's too low, you could use progesterone supps from O (ovulation) to AF. They will lengthen your luteal phase & thicken your uterine lining.  Good luck to you!!! :)

If you ovulate every month like normal then clomid won't do anything to help your chances. Just remember every IUI cycle you only have a 25-30% chance of concieving and it could take a while to work unfortunetly. Just stick in there and keep trying.

It sounds like you are just starting out.  Don't be suprised if it doesn't have in the first try.  Even 20 years old don't get so lucky on the first time.   It usually take about 3 to 4 times to get pregnant.  You're lucky if you get pregnant the first time.

This is something that takes time and since you are in your mid-30s expect it to take even longer.   So don't give up!!!!  Maybe be a bit more aggressive than just clomid.   Maybe clomid and a couple days of injectibles.   You get more follicles that way (hence more eggs).

Good luck!

Hi girls! thanks for your responses...sorry it took a while from my end. My laptop had to be brought in for repairs. I will take my last clomid pill tomorrow. going in tues to have an ultrasound. The dr.decided to put me on clomid to help my egg quality. My estrogen was low...only a 96 with a 18mm size follicle and that's why the IUI didn't take possibly.

mommyin09: thanx for ur response. thankfully my uterine lining is pretty thick. thanks for tip on progesterone suppositories. How is your process going?

lmcrt: thanx for input. I do hear that Clomid helps because it tricks your body into thinking that u dont produce enough estrogen and thus it helps produce more, indirectly so. Also, multiple ovulations may occur, which also help increase your chances.

YvetteY: Thanx for the positive outlook. I'm going to avoid the high cost of injectables for now, and stick with the clomid. I am also doing two IUI's this month, so we'll see what happens. What's the outlook for you?

Lots of baby dust to all of u!

I got pregnant on Clomid 50mg. My daughter is now 2 and we are trying for baby #2. This time doctor is doing Clomid as well as extra estrogen cycle days 8-12 in order to help produce cervical mucus and progesterone starting cd 17 after ovulation.

I have already ovulated and believe me the estradiol sure worked. I procduced a TON of fertile cervical mucus.  I am now 4dpo and hoping to be preggers this cycle.

Also unlike what was posted above I do ovulate on my own every month even w/out Clomid. But I have a long luteal phase and Clomid helps me to O a little earlier than I normally would.

Good Luck!
