has anyone had success with 1 embryo!!!!

by babydayz421, Apr 27, 2008 08:05AM
Hi,
I had egg collection on the 23/4 then on the 25/4 went back in for embryo transfer they collected 12 eggs  10 were mature enough but only 1 fetilized as the rest didn't survive the icsi process... so realisticly do I have a chance of this working when normally you have 2 put back! has anyone had a bfp with only 1 embryo xx

I think you have a good chance.  My clinic really only wanted me to transfer 1 but we did 2. I am waiting till may 5th.... Wish you all the luck in the world.

Hi there, your post got me very emotional. I had exactly the very same question a couple of months ago when I went through my first ivf. I too am 30 yrs old and I too had 10 eggs retrieved and of them only 2 fertilized through ICSI. And I too had only a single embryo transfer. I had a BFN with that cycle, but the support of women on this forum helped answer all my doubts and fears and get me through:)

They say it only takes ONE and I am hoping and praying that this is it for you. Keeping you in my thoughts and sending you lots of SSBD and all the good luck!!

If you don't mind, could you share some details about yourself? Diagnosis of infertility, grade of embryo transferred, etc?

best,
Julie

I was discussing how many embryos to put back with my doc yesterday and he said that the second embryo only increases chances of success by 7% while raising probability of multiples.  With a good quality embryo your chances with one are close to your chances with 2.  Good luck!!

So sorry to hear you had such a hard cycle.  Did they say what they meant that only 1 survived ICSI??  I mean did one fertilize and the rest were degenerative or just didn't fertilize.  That is NOT normal if that was the case -- ICSI success depends a lot on the operator.  But we have had many pregnancies with single embryo transfers -- including patients who elected for a single transfer.  In fact the CDC wants all clinics to go to single embryo transfers which is what most clinics do in Europe where cryo is not legal and also discardng embryos is not legal -- kind of a mess over there -- we are lucky to have so many rights over here.

So I wish you the best of luck!

I was wondering why my doctor would discourage me from PGD.  I am 34 and this is our 1st cycle with IVF/Icsi for male infertility. She said it could damage it the embryo.  Also, is it true that we are more likely to have  a boy because boy embyros live longer/grow faster and tend to be transfered more often?  One final question since this is your line of work, is it normal to have 12 fertilized embryos and only 1 left for freezing.  We did get to transfer 2 blasts at least! Waiting for May 5

Thanks!

Hi LvnEmbryos,
The embryologist who I saw said that the eggs didn't survive the icsi process as the shell around the eggs were very soft & non elastic so when the needle was injected for icsi the eggs were callapsing! does this happen?  if so is there anything i can do to prevent it from happening again I was told it's not a medical condition & it could of just been that batch of eggs...I feel that everything that could go wrong with this cycle has I promised myself i'd be strong but its way to hard I honestly feel drained.. in regards to it being kind of a mess over here I totally agree thankfully right now the clinic I go to does still transfer 2 embryos but I do know that it is going to change i just don't know when!!
thank you for your support I can't tell you how much it means to me take care xx

Ivf is such a rollercoaster.  We have to worry about embryo production, fertilization rates, embryo quality while having absolutely no control over anything.  Just feel like the stress never ends.  Looks like you had more ups and down with this cycle than most people.  I just wanted to let you know that I can totally relate to your axiety.  I hope this cycle works for you and you don't have to go through this again.  My fingers are crossed for your BFP!

Hi Honey

These ladies are all right it only takes one honey, & you have a good chance, as I said they are bringing in a new law where they are only putting one back anyway, because of the high rates of miscarridge with multiple births so the nurse told me after this cycle they will probably only put one back if I need another cycle.

So your little peanut has a good chance of implanting chill out honey everything will be alright. I am here for you with whatever the outcome will be.

lots of love & SSBD
chrissie
p.s the pic looks perfect x x x

I had my IVF cycle in February,I transferred 2 but the second wasn't good quality but I did get my BFP. One of the women Only transferred one embryo and she also got her BFP now she is 12 weeks. So please do not give up hope.

I thought I'd post really quick and let you know that last August I got pregnant w/only one embryo.  It was of high quality and I now have a brand new baby born April 22!  I really argued w/the drs and embryologists about transferring two because I thought it would increase the odds but they said it wouldn't and my dh supported them.  Anyway, just wanted to wish you luck and SSBD!!!!!!!

I had one embie put in in November and BFP...we had 5 defrosted and only 1 made it, so that is what we did! Again...you have been told time and time again...(hard to take in, though) it only takes one!! ( i did have m/c BUT had nothing to do w/ only putting one in...had to do w/ the embie...started out really strong, but something genetically wrong)
Good luck!!! Wishing for that BFP for you (and all others! I am currently waiting, too!!! Had FET on Thursday last week, put in 2, but that is all we had left so fingers, toes, etc...crossed!)
:O)

It depends on the embryologist -- we do not see any damage in our embryos that have had PGD but out lab director is amazing and does all the PGD.  It is not more likely to have a boy with IVF at least in our success rates.  Those numbers are not bad at all.  We usually see about 50% survive to blast so that would be 6 and if they transferred 2 and they are as picky as we are about what we freeze, you should be pleased to have frozen an embryo.  Good luck!

Hey there.  Well I haven't ever seen the happen personally.  You do expect some elasticity in the eggs and it causes the pop which allows you to be sure that you are completely inside the egg and then inject the sperm.  We do occassionally have squirting eggs, where the contents of the egg come back out -- but I have never seen that happen with more than 1 egg in a batch.  Of course, without actually having been there its hard to predict.

GOOD LUCK!

My friend went to a clinic in close to Salt Lake City that will not put in anymore than one embryo per transfer so good luck & god bless *
