I would think that if it was 9 days over your trigger shot then you are probably ok to do a pregnancy test! I have my fingers crossed for you! I am getting ready to do my first round of IUI and my RE says that I have a high chance of multiples and that we have to be careful... Good luck and keep us updated on how you are doing!

Hello Ladies,

I am new to the community.  I am 31; DH is 37.  We have been TTC since 2006, but started ART at the end of August 2009.  I was on 300IU of Follistim and was able to produce two eggs (one on each side).  I triggered ovulation with Ovidrel (250mcg) on 9/3, had IUI # 1 done on 9/5.  We did the BD on the day of IUI (9/5) and on 9/6.  I am also going to acupunture twice a week.

I took a HPT yesterday (11 dpIUI, 13 days past trigger) and it was positive.  I took one this morning (12 dpIUI and 14 days past trigger) and it was negative.

Not sure what to believe.  Has anyone else had such a result before?  I am having a tough day (hardly ate this morning and no lunch now).

My RE wants me to go for BW on 9/21.

Best of luck to all of you, and baby dust to all as well.  Please share your thoughts with me.

thanks!
I was on 100mg of clomid during 3-7cycle days. I did the trigger shot lastnite and it's probably my mind...but I've been feeling a little cramping on my right side. Will the RE supposed to do an u/s on the day of the IUI. I'm having my 1st on in the morning and I'm trying not to freak out.

Thank you very much.  I went this morning for BW @ the RE's office.  He thinks that it might have been a chemical pregnancy, but the BW will give me more clues as to what exactly happened.

Good luck to you as well and I will keep you posted :)

I called the dr's office yesterday and I am going to have projesterone levels checked next friday to make sure I ovulated. I also asked nurse about the pre-seed, she said it's fine. she said if I was having IUI they wouldn't want any lubes b/c it creates that extra barrier. I also asked about robitussin and she said she has heard that. she is going to check with dr reg pre-seed and robitussin and let me know. It is crazy how dr's will give you different info.

Hi, yeah, let me know about the preseed.  Quite curious as I have also read good things about it and at this point I will try anything.  I am 43 and will give up soon.  I dont know what to do anymore. Let me know if you ovulated...Good luck to you.

So, I spoke to the nurse and she said that I am not pregnant.  I can't say that I am surprised.  She said that I never was pregnant; it was just the Ovidrel that was still in my system when I took the first HPT.  She told me to stop using the progesterone, and that I should get AF next week.  I haven't seen AF in a year (suffering from POF).  I have a follow up with the RE on 10/5, and will see a new acupuncturst tomorrow afternoon for a 'second opinion'.

Will keep you posted.  Thanks for listening :)  Hope that you are doing good.

Best of luck to all you ladies....and hopes for a BFP to all.

Hi everyone!  I am new to this community & I can't tell you how happy I am to find it!  It is wonderful to know that we aren't alone in our fertility issues anymore.  I had my 2nd IUI last Sunday so I am now 5 dp IUI.  100mg of clomid & HCG trigger shot.  I'm not too hopeful for this month because I am not feeling any "symptoms".  Last month I was totally sick and sore and crampy for the entire 2 ww.  I feel great, a little tired but great.  Who else is in the 2ww and is this normal, this not feeling anything at all?

Hi All,

It is Sat morning and I am getting ready to go in for my 2nd IUI this morning. I actually got a positive LH surge on my own, so no trigger needed this month. I'm praying this will be the month. I am still on 100mg of Clomid for this month, too. After my IUI I am going immediately to acupuncture. My acupuncturist said she sees her patients the same day of an IUI- hopefully to work her magic.

Baby dust to EVERYONE!

Best of luck!

I had my first IUI last Sunday, and also had acupunture afterwards.  I see my acupuncturist every week and she also give me herbs to take twice a day.  I have allot of faith in her so I hope everything helps.  I started to feel cramps yesterday and today as well as my temp. has been rising for the last couple of days.  I'm hoping these are good signs.

The only worry I have I have been having the o pains in the left side ( I have no tube there) so prayerfully the right will release. Since we did no u/s this month not sure where the follies are... Well I am now 7dpiui.  I am feeling much better this month than last, but I'm really tired and thirsty.  I can't seem to get enough to drink...  Can anyone tell me if this is usual?  Then again I'm starting to get my af mood swings...  I don't know what to think at this point.

by pregnancylove12, Sep 20, 2009 02:44PM
well i am out for this month....its official, got the b/w back and they said it was a "chemical misscarriage" so we are going for our 4th IUI and if it doesn't work, we may move to injectables.
I have an appointment with an acupuncturist because i figured at this point it can't hurt and if nothing else it will REALLY reduce my stress level! This really stinks but the good news is that something is working down there in order to get a positive....and i never saw one of those before! trying to keep my head up in this difficult time :)

Hello Ladies:

I got AF this afternoon.  It is very, very painful for me because I haven't seen AF in a year.
Went to a new acupuncturist yesterday and she inspired a lot of faith in me.  I will soon begin herbal treatment (2-3 bags per day), and I will have acupuncture 2X per week.

I have to see RE on 10/5 and we will take it from there.  Has anyone had a BFP combining Eastern and Western medicine, or any thoughts on this?  I have read so  about the topic and the results have been good ones.  I am also reading this book: "The Infertility Cure" by Randine Lewis, which speaks to this combination.

bfromthed:  Best of luck to you, you are in my prayers.

I wish everyone all the best.  Positive thoughts and BFP's to all.  Please share your thoughts with me.

We triggered yesterday morning at around 11am and covered our bases last night as we will do the same tonite...lots of cramping on the left first (I have no tube there) now the right (hopefully it wins the race) so we are officially in the 2ww again and I will keep you ladies posted. Thanks so much for the support!

Pregnancylove12,
Sorry to hear what's been happenning but keep ur head up i beleive there is hope for most of us if not all of us.
All,
Since i bled last time and the Dr said i am loosing the baby my numbers kept going up i bled for a week  but my numbers kept on doubling we were monitoring them for over a week the RE had me schuduled for a laproscopy for next tuesday but i had a lot of pain last monday night and end it up in the emergency room they kept me there for 2 days very puzzeled as they can't locate the fetus in me anywhere but my numbers are high they can not say for sure that it's an ectopic but they are sure it's an abnormal pregnancy there for they gave me the methadroxate shot to make the pregnancy go away OMG on one the pain that i suffered over the weekend because of the shot and i finally started bleeding again yesterday so now i go back tuesday to see if the shot worked or not. if the shot worked than i have to wait 2 to 3 cycles before i can try again with iui if i did not then i have to do a laproscopy anyway than wait the 2-3 cycles. This ***** a lot but i am staying hopefull because it worked this time and i got pregnant and that never happened to me before so hopefully if god wanted next time it will stick. I'll keep you guys posted.

so is day 7 past IUI too soon to test?

by interwoven2340, Sep 22, 2009 07:58AM
To: waitin4baby/ALL
waiting4baby:  I think that it might be too soon to test.  I started testing 11 dpiui (13 days past trigger) and I got a false positive.  Then I tested the next day, and it was negative.  Did you use a trigger shot to start ovulation?

ALL: I went to the acupuncturist/herbal medicine doctor and had my treatment last night.
She put me on a fertility diet with lots of vitamins and exercises and I also picked up my herbal medicine.  It doesn't taste good, but at least it didn't make me sick.  I am trying everything to increase my chances of fertility.

7 dpiui is definately too early, especially if you had a trigger shot.  You are half way there, just 1 more week...  I know it's easier said than done.  I have 5 more days b-4 I can test.

Its weird...I am on day 31 with no period and my period is usually 28 days.  I had a feeling that was the case....i took a test this morning..and it was negative.  My neice just gave birth this morning to little Oscar.  Bittersweet as the baby I lost would have been due in a couple of weeks.

Hi,

My RE said that because I am suffering from POF, I don't respond well enough to the medication to produce a lot of eggs which is key for IVF.  I was on 300IU of Follistim and I was only able to produce 2 eggs.  That's a high dose of medication.

I am hoping that with my herbs, vitamin supplements, and acupuncture, that with time the quality of my eggs will get better....maybe even be able to ovulate again!

bfromthed:  I am glad that you covered all of your bases.  Thanks for the tip about b-ding before ovulation.  All the best to you.

One more question, what is POF?

by interwoven2340, Sep 23, 2009 10:31AM

POF is Premature Ovarian Failure.  I have a low egg reserve and hardly ovulate.

Thanks for listening!

by Leebaby09, Sep 23, 2009 01:01PM
To: interwoven2340
Yeah it was the first time that we did the injections. They put me on such a low dose because with the chlomid, I would have at least 8-10 follies. The last cycle we did on chlomid, I had 12-14 follies and 4 of them were fairly large, of course just the one really mature one. I had only 1 this time on the injections but the nurse told me that was ideal for me. So she it all did just right so now we wait!! :)

All: I have been cramping pretty good. Steadily since the IUI but it has gotten alittle more intense over the past 3 days. Not AF cramps, just uncomfortable one. Is that a good thing??

by interwoven2340, Sep 23, 2009 01:53PM
To: Leebaby09
Thanks for your reply.  I hope that everything works out for you!

I had a lot of cramping in my first few days, but I couldn't call it because I didn't know if it was because AF was coming or if it was the progesterone......

Just got af today....as expected.  Day 35!  I usually go 28 days.  So, on cd3, I will start wtih 100mg of clomid.

Has anyone out there done injectables, then moved to clomid and got pregnant?  looking for anything positive.  I hate this waiting game month after month.  My clock is ticking!!!

pregnancylove12:  If I may ask, why did you want to stay on Clomid and not move on to the injectables?

IMIforever:  You are a brave woman.  I wish I had that same strength, but I think it's the best thing to wait.  I don't want to be afraid of POAS.  Good for you.  I wish you all the best.  I was afraid to go to the bathroom during my 2WW.  Everything I felt I was sure it was AF, but those progesterone supposotories are messy (sorry if it's TMI), but then I got over it.  I had to let go, I couldn't stand myself!

As for me, I have acupuncture treatment tonight (last time I was there, I counted 23 needles).  I feel like she (my acupuncturist) is putting me back together...These needles to me are my strength.  I am praying for the best.

Thinking of you all and wishing you BFP's.

OK so I am freaking out now.  I'm 12dpiui and I couldn't stand it anymore and did a test...  BFP!!  I have NEVER had a positive test, so I have an appt on the 1st for bw (that's the soonest they could get me in & is gonna make for a long week).  Is 12 too soon?  Last month I tested at 9dpiui and it was neg, nothing changed in the meds aspect for this month.  is day 12 too soon do you think??  I'm praying as hard as I can!

I tested on Day 12 and got BFP.  My RE made me retest on Day 14 because it could have been the meds.  But now I am 9 wks preg. so I would say that you probably are preg.  But I would retest in 2 more days to be sure.  I can't believe that they are making you wait until the 1st.  Can't you go to a lab and have your blood drawn?  Good luck!

I am 11 days past ovulation. I don't think I am having any pregnancy symptoms. I woke up this morning crabby and I cried. Nothing really set me off. I just am thinking it is PMS. When I think or know that AF is coming it just really depresses me that maybe it's not in the cards to be someone's mom. I have wanted it since I was 10 yrs old. I never dreamed I would  be having difficulty conceiving. My husband gets mad when I am crabby and I am not nice to be around. I try to explain to him that it is PMS and he just thinks that is crazy. He just doesn't understand, his thinking is that no one can say we didn't try but that doesn't make me feel any better. I just want to feel what you all are feeling and want to see that pregnant symbol on HPT. I am just really discouraged.

Congrats on all those Positive's out there and I don't mean to take away from that. I know you all have put in your dues and have been where I am at.

this month i did femara with an IUI.  I did visualization practice afterwards picturing the sperm going into the egg, then telling myself daily i was pregnant. I really believed it, this time, "just had a feeling" which is why i was so upset when i got the BFN the other day. My doc said to keep testing till I bled and not to count anything out. So I tested last night got a BFP. Thought is it a fluke? tested again this morning still BFP. yay!

I wish everyone the very best of luck with their BFP's!!  Congratulations to all the new mothers.

sassygirl35: Hang in there.  My DH had a meltdown on Saturday night and it's hard.....emotions are all over the place.  You need each other's strengths to make it thru, and you will!

As for me, AF has been here for about 8 days now.  It is difficult for me to count how long my cycle is...I'm assuming it's long, but who knows.  I have been taking my herbs 3X a day, (for those of you who don't use herbal medicine, the taste isn't good), I am also taking my vitamin supplements, and going to acupuncture...which I have tonight.

What else can I do? :)  For the last six months I have been taking up photography as my "escape".  I had a class on Saturday which was really helpful.  I go out with my camera and shoot and it takes my mind off of things.

I have one more week left until I go back to the RE (10/5) and start up on the meds and gear up for IUI # 2.

I just went to the bathroom and I am starting to spot. Oh well, I got 2 more months to do clomid @ home. then I don't know what I am going to do. I might do one or two more IUI's and then call it quits if that don't work. I can't afford IVF.

First of all, I just want to say that I just got so emotional reading all of your posts. You are all such amazing women, and even though I just read them, I have to say that you have all been such an inspiration.

My DH and I have been TTC since April 2008. We started seeing an RE in January of this year. I had taken Clomid since April 2008, and it always worked pretty well. We did one IUI in February 2009, but the day we came in to do it we learned that I had already ovulated. The doc did it anyway at no charge. It didn't work, needless to say. We did another IUI in March that was unsuccessful. Finally in April 2009, we did an IUI that worked. Unfortunately, it was a chemical pregnancy. I then had to take 2 months off, then began Clomid in late June. I ovulated too early again, and was totally bummed. In July/August, Clomid failed to work at all. I was so frustrated and devistated. I then made the tough decision to switch it up with Follistim (difficult because of the price difference and the fact that I have PCOS). After 2+ weeks of giving myself a daily shot (starting at 83.3ish and ending at 141.6ish), I got some good follies. My DH and I did yet another IUI this past Wednesday (September 23, 2009...which is also the anniversary of a car accident that I had 3 years ago, that almost claimed my life and put my DH and I on a rollercoaster of issues). I have had a few normal symptoms from taking the Novarel (Hcg trigger), but some light cramping and MAJOR constipation (hope that's not TMI =). I know not to take a HPT, but this is stressful. I go in this Wednesday for a Progesterone level test, and the following Wednesday for a Beta test.

Please, pray that we get a BFP and that we don't stress too much in the meantime!!!

Congrats to all who got BFPs recently!!!

To all of the ladies on clomid... Have any of you tried letrozol?

I was on clomid for a year and we did timed intercourse with follicle monitoring.  Every month I had these great huge follicles but could not get preganant.

I finally changed Dr's and he put me on Letrozol and puregon I had 5 great follicles and got pregnant on my first iui.

I did some research and they said clomid can cause hostile mucus, and is not good for timed intercourse.

I am not a Dr by any means, but maybe you can talk to your Dr's to make sure you are getting treating with drugs that you really need???

The roller coaster begins ones again! I don't know how much more patience I have left  to continue. Finished 3 months of clomid and timed IC plus one month of clomid and IUI. Last month was supposed be a very good one with 4 follicles and an excellent sperm count and motility.

Hi everyone. So glad I found this thread. It is such a positive thread. BIG congratulations to all the new mommies.

I am 13dpiui. Took Clomid and having symptoms that started around 9dpiui. Really was quite stress free and quite symptom free until then. I made a decision to leave it all in God's hands. And I am trying to be confident that he will give us our babies when the time is just perfect. But I am startin to obsess.

Here are my symptoms so far:
- started to get the quick pinching pains in the right and left lower abdomen.

- On 11dpiui - those pains got really frequent and intense and lasted all day but they seem to be gone now.

- increased yellowish CM the week after the iui and still more than usual for me.

- very sore nips from 10dpiui. it continues. boobs normal though (which is unusual for me)

- yesterday and this morning I got heartburn and mild queasiness. I NEVER get heartburn.

All of these symptoms are pretty unusual for me. I took Clomid about a year ago but dont recall what symptoms I had if any.

Is it likely that the Clomid causes symtoms in the 2ww and do these sound like Clomid symptoms? I am trying to trust in God but still a little fearful. looking forward to your responses.

Thanks for the good wishes. Not testing until Sunday which will be 18dpiui. My usual LP is 14/15 days. But the last time I did Clomid/IUI it went to 17 so am going to try to hold out because I get so depressed when I see a negative hpt.

But I got my pre-AF pain a little while ago so I am struggling to keep the faith.

Welcome to our forum.  When I had my first IUI done (on 9/5) I had a lot of cramping for the first few days....definitely felt a little different than AF...I thought it was stronger for some reason.  So I would have to say that it is normal.  Best of luck to you.  We are here to support one another.

sassygirl35: Glad to hear that you received word from your doc's office.  Keep trying, it will happen (that's what I keep telling myself!).

As for me, I thought AF was gone, but she's not!  I am getting worried now. Today is the 9th day.  If it continues, I'm going to have to call the RE to see what is up with this.

I know how you are feeling and I know it is easier said than done to stay positive. We just need to keep thinking that it will happen when it is supposed to (I should take my own advice) :)

I just joined this forum. Made my first post yesterday. I go in tomorrow for a progesterone level test. I have been cramping quite a bit and that makes me extremely nervous. I don't remember cramping like this with my previous IUIs (I had 3 at my regular OB/GYN and 3 with my RE, not counting the one I had Sept. 23). I also had severe constipation (to the point of not being able to sit down comfortably, or sleep well) and bloating. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms following IUI; specifically, with Follistim. Of course, I had my HCG shot before my IUI but again, don't remember these symptoms from before. I am also taking 200mg of Prometrium twice a day. Maybe that justifies the cramping? Any advice or words of comfort are welcome.

dashami: I know it gets frustrating...believe me. I am just as guilty of letting this whole process consume me. When it doesn't go the way I think it should, I get so down...and I'm normally such an up-beat and positive person. We'll ALL get through this together. Don't lose hope!

Good luck to all!!!

Good luck to all!!!

I know exactly what you mean. I have had numerous IUIs, but I don't remember getting this cramping this early pIUI. This is, however, my first IUI with Follistim. Maybe that's the difference? What did you use? Here's to hoping =).

I had my first IUI done with Follistim, then used Ovidrel to trigger ovulation.
I have had the symptoms that you are having Nokoutem.  I had constipation (not as severe though), and I had very vivid dreams....not nightmares, just regular dreams which was different for me.

I had A LOT of cramping the day of IUI and I would have to say for about 3-4 days later.
Then things got sort of quiet for me.  My nipples were big, and my breasts were really sore/tender but that was because of the progesterone that I was using.  The cramping changed after the 4th day to more of a "construction" feeling...not AF, but then the symptoms all went away.

I was on a very high dose of Follistim (300IU) per day.  Good luck to you.

bfromthed:  Hang in there, and stay positive (I should start practicing what I preach!).
You always give us so much hope...

You are in my thoughts.............

I was on gonal F (same as follistim) and on my 3rd iui, I got more cramping than the others right away...it didnt really go away for about the whole 2ww.  I ended up getting pregnant.  I only got cramping when I was pregnant...not with the other iui's.  I would take this as a good sign.

good luck

Me, I am on my second try of clomid...on 100mg 4th day.   I cant afford the shots anymore...

I just joined the forum.  I am on my 5th try on clomid and I had my first trigger shot with IUI just a few days ago.  I had a lot of cramping yesterday, which has sort of subsided now.  Is there a typical set of symptoms that are good signs to get?

I had my progesterone level test, and it looked pretty good. 28.5. The month I actually got pregnant, at this stage after an IUI, my progesterone level was 32. I can't help  I'm so hoping this IUI worked. One more week to go before doing a blood test to determine positive/negative. Anyone know if 28.5 is good, okay or just acceptable?

Please keep us all posted on your progess.

As for me, nothing too fun going on. AF is still here...but I go to see the R/E on Monday.
I have acupuncture tonight and just continue to drink my herbs, and my supplements.

I'm assuming that I will start with Follistim next week sometime once AF leaves, so hopefully soon I will join everyone!

Hi All-

I am wishing everyone baby dust!!!!  I am now 12dpiui and am very crampy and kow AF is coming. UGh, trying to stay positive...but all signs are pointing to her coming:(

I have a question. Next month is my last shot at the clomid IUI cycle. My doc only does 3 IUI cycles before moving on. He did mention next step is IVF and I am not ready for that.

Has anyone done other meds with an IUI other than clomid? Before going the IVF route?

by bfromthed, Oct 01, 2009 10:49AM
To: Kiko33122
Hello yes we went from Clomd to Femara for a while then injectables....due to insurance not covering anything for IVF we were not able to afford that. Clomid did work for us though a few years ago with Ovidril on the second month of trying. Good luck to you!

I did the injectables and got pregnant on the third one.  Lost the baby...tried again in July, ran out of insurance and money so now i am on clomid.  Going backwards but I am still trying.

I think for me because I was 42 when I started, they went straight to the injectables so as to "not to waste time"....

I have read that clomid is not recommended for over 40 but my doc says its fine.  My FSH and estradiol numbers are good.

I tried clomid but without IUI and did got get pregnant.  I then switched to Follistim with IUI and got pregnant with both of my daughters on the first try.  I would recommend trying injectables before jumping into IVF.  Good luck!

it is good to have the progesterone levels checked every now and then b/c that tells the Dr if you ovulated or not. It is very rare but it is possible to not even ovulate with clomid. you might surge but the egg never releases. I hope this answers your question.

Definately try injectables before going to IVF.  I was on clomid w/ 3 IUIs and no preg.  Then I went to Menopur, HCG and IUIs.  I had 3 IUIs w/ these meds and got BFP twice.  First one ended at 5 wks but I am no pregnant at 10 wks.  Things are going great.  I also did acupuncture on the 2 IUIs that actually worked.  Hope this helps.  Good luck to everyone!

Just a quick ?'s does insurance  cover acupuncture? And when did you start re: the day of iui or just around cycle times?

by sagebrush, Oct 03, 2009 01:33PM
To: bfromthed
My insurance does cover acupuncture but not all plans do.  I started treatment at the beginning of my cycle. I think day 2 then I think I had 1 treatment after the IUI too.  My plan is for baby #2 to just do acupuncture and see if that works by itself.  The theory behind it is that it gets your blood flowing and makes your uterus ready to hold a baby.  I would highly recommend it.  I stayed away from the herbs that they offer though.  Good luck!

by interwoven2340, Oct 03, 2009 01:50PM
To: bfromthed
My insurance doesn't cover it but the healthcare reimbursement
account does. My acupuncturist has a PhD in Chinese Herbal Medicine
and she told me that herbs are necessary for me because I need to
"warm" my body and get the blood flowing. My treatment is more long term.

It is not cheap. Read the book "The Infertility Cure" by Randine Lewis.
It will explain a lot.

Hope tha helps.

Hey girls.
I am 7dp iui.  Was on femara.  I am older - just turned 43.  We thought my hubby was sterile only to find out he had a varicocele - after 14 years of marriage.  He got that fixed 2 yrs ago.  WE are now 43 and 41.  Still trying.  My fsh varies from 3 one month to 20 another month.  Even so I am still producing follicles with help from femara.  If this cycle doesn't work, I am doing estrogen priming protocol for older women and then femara and then doing "pulse shots" every other day with menopur following femara.

Anyway, tried clomid previous cycles and it thinned my lining terribly.  Femara didn't and I have nice big juicy follicle at 24 on right and then a smaller one at about 14 on left--- but was probably too immature when I triggered.  Triggered one week ago and had same day IUI St 9/26 and next day IUI on 9/27.  Both IUI's were at 12pm noon.  Think I ovulated late in day Sunday after 2nd IUI due to mittleshmertz (sp?) at 5-6pm.  Temp didn't rise until Tues morning but this is common for me - 36 hour rise instead of 24 hour rise.

Next time we are also doing 12 and 36 hour double IUI's post hcg shot.  Doc suggested we try IVF and although we have insurance - just one IVF and our insurance is eaten up.  We looked at stats and IUI's vs IVF for women in my age group and decided on the IUI's until insurance is gone.

I am having symptoms.  But know that it is probably from femara, estradoil (for estrogen priming), progesterone and hcg shot.  Lots of cramping, niggles on both sides of uterus.  Had alot in ovaries but now it is more centered on uterus.  Had BAD headaches and am doing accupuncture for that.  Been eating like a piggie.  My weight has gone up 2#'s. lots of creamy yellow cm that changes to dry yellow cm.  nipples and bbs tender.

Fingers are crossed.  I hope both eggs shot down the tubes.  Good luck to us all.

by superfostermom09, Oct 03, 2009 02:58PM
Oh yes, my lining this time on femara was close to 17 (greater than 8 and close to 9 each side).  Last month on clomid my lining was only 8 (4 each side) - so not good.

I am sticking with femara.

The estrogen priming protocol works better for older women.  It doesn't shut down your ovaries which mine were asleep when I took the bcp prior to previous cycles.

You take estrogen the last 2 weeks before AF and then you take the femara 2-7 and the pulse shots of an fsh.  Then we do a double IUI if we have at least one good follicle.

Since I am on estrogen and progesterone when (if) I get AF then I stop progesterone and continue with estrogen.  I am estrogen deficient and as a younger woman had type 2 diabetes and minor pcos/syndrome X.  I no longer have diabetes as I was cured through a surgery.  But there are probably some residual effects from it.  I don't take any diabetes meds at all and lost 63 pounds.

Thank you ALL for the feedback on injectactables before going IVF and that is something I will most certainly bring up when i regroup with the doc. AF came on Friday...so one more try with the Clomid/IUI this month...then moving on. I will still see my acupuncturist. I love going and am a huge believer in it:)

Still trying to be hopeful. I'm now 11 days post IUI. I go for my blood test Wednesday (pg test). I'm still having some cramping on and off, and some creamy white discharge. I have googled everything and it seems that the same symptoms that are common just before AF are the same as the symptoms in early pregnancy. I have no idea! I'm just, of course, thinking I'm about to get AF. There is still a smidgen of hope though. Please just say a little prayer for me.

Hi there.  I also just turned 43...and was using the injectables in January with an iui and got pregnant...lost the baby....am trying again  but I have used up all of my insurance  as far as fertility goes.  So, i paid for a round myself and did not get pregnant.  Now I am doing the clomid since it is a lot cheaper...but the doctors office did not mention anything about thinning of the uterus...Now I am worried...am I just wasting my time?  I am not sure I am following you with the estrogen priming for older women...and what are the pulse shots????

First of all I am so excited to find an uplifting discussion group, like this!

I have had my 3rd IUI Sept 29/09, making today 6dpiui.  I have been taking Gonal-F and Ovidrel, also Bromocriptine (pituitory gland isssue).  After this IUI I experiences EXTREME cramping, so much so that I had to lie down on my office floor for 15 mins.  During the next few days I have had twinges in both ovaries.  But for the last 3 days I have been feeling sort of quessy, almost like butterflies in my tummy.  And this morning, I felt faint and had to rest a little.  Are my most recent symptons of "butterflies" and "faintness" due to my meds. or can this be pregnancy symptons?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks

Thank you very much for your feedback.  I went ahead and ordered just the strips to give it a try.

Also, did you (or any of you ladies who combine acupuncture treatment) take herbal medicine while on the IUI medications?

ALL:  RE said that I was actually pregnant, but it resulted in a chemical pregnancy.

He increased the dosage of follistim to 450IU beginning on 10/6.

My acupuncturist says not to take the medicine because my body isn't 'ready' for it yet.

What are your thoughts?

Hi everyone.  I'm so excited to read so many BFP's.  I also hope this is a new trend for us all.  I am going today to check my follicles.  I always ovulate a few days later than most, so we scheduled it for day 15 of my cycle.  Will be doing IUI probably Wednesday for the 5th time.  This will more than likely be our last one, but it was nice to read about the injectibles.  I thought our next step would be IVF.  Soon I'll be in the 2ww - wish me luck.  Good luck to the rest of you in the 2ww.

I'm new to this forum and find very comforting to find a group of individuals like ourselves gathered together and offer each other strenght and support. After 5 IVF cycles including this last embryo transfer on 9/25/09 and married close to 10 years, this board offers me what nobody in my surrounding can offer "moral support" and understand how we feel. I have lost 2 pregnacies, one at a very late stage of the pregnacy and caused me a few years to get out of emotionally. Now I"m prepared, hopeful that this is going to be it for us. I went for my progesterone count on 9/30/09 and everything seem well Progesterone at 31 & Estrogen at 213!! doctor says these are good numbers.

After reading so much on this boards and wondering if doing an HPT was the right thing to do or not, I decided and took one on 10/2/09 which showed negative, however it was only 7 days after embryo transfer, don't know if it was too soon to test, now I'm afraid to try again and since I continued to feel the likely symtoms reported by most of us who received a transfer during the 2 week waiting period, I remain hopeful, positive and keep my self as rested as possible. I have read a few post who have tested a few times before the actual blood work who showed negative on HPT and turned out with a positive on final exam.

I'm schedule to go this coming Wednesday 10/7/09 for my final, please keep me in your prayers and I will post soon!

Thanks!

I'm now 12dpIUI. Time is going by so slowly until Wednesday. I have had very little discharge since yesterday and the day before. The cramping continues though. It's got me a little nervous. The only thing is that I started cramping just a couple of days after my IUI, and I don't usually start cramping that far away from AF. It could be a good thing...or not, and that scares me. As I previously posted, it seems that the symptoms for early pregnancy are basically the same as PMS...so confusing! Anyway, good luck and Baby Dust to all!!!

wolfgangsmom: Thanks for sharing about your cramping with similar drugs. That makes me feel a little bit better =) Also, I don't know if this helps with your estrogen dilemma or not but I was told something similar. In my case, I needed the Clomid because I have PCOS. What Clomid does is block your estrogen to increase your FSH(follicle stimulating hormone). In some cases, the estrogen level doesn't rise enough upon completion of Clomid to thicken up the lining of your uterus enough for implantation. In essence, you could be treating one problem but creating another. I was told that there are some estrogen supplements you can take along with Clomid. Luckily, my estrogen levels are naturally high, so mine rose enough. Sorry you are unable to take the shots at this time, but maybe the Clomid will work for you this time =) You're in my prayers and I hope this helped in some way.

Fingers Crossed and Baby Dust to all!!!

Hi there... this is my first post. I read through all your post and you all are very inspiring. I am 31 and have tried femera + IUI twice. The first time it didn't work. I was so hopeful as my period was a week late but I got a negative PT so we did it again. Right now I am currently 7 days after Femera and IUI (and trigger shot)... in the waiting game. My lower back is killing me but other than that I don't feel any different, except everything keeps making me cry a lot. All of my best friends are pregnant right now and I am feeling so left out. I was wondering if anyone on here has any thyroid issues and/or has had a major surgery? I have had both hypothyroidism and have had a liver resection so this is why I need IUI... plus my FSH was really high for someone my age. I guess I want to know is anyone had success with these health issues? I am hoping this works soon as my job just changed and new insurance does not cover fertility. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kiko33122: Thanks for your feedback.  I am still on the fence as to what I should do at this point.  Not sure if I should go the IUI route or if I should wait and see if my body has reacted to the acupuncture/herbal treatment.  I am scheduled to begin my IUI meds as early as tonight, but I might wait until I see my acupuncturist tomorrow to begin the meds.

Welcome to all the newbies!  This is a great place to be.

Tgirl21:  I am 31 and my FSH (last time I checked which was about 3 months ago) was high...at 12.9...which is high for someone my age.  I had my first IUI on 9/5 which resulted in a chemical pregnancy....but it was a pregnancy, which is bittersweet to me.
But these are not uncommon.  Even women who ovulate regularly have chemical pregnancies.  It will happen for you...just stay positive.

How do you know it was chemical pregnancy? did you get positive HPT?

by interwoven2340, Oct 06, 2009 09:18AM
To: sassygirl35
Yes.  With my first IUI, I tested at 11dpiui (13 days past trigger) and I got a BFP.
Then I tested the next day, and it was a BFN.  I asked my RE if he thought that it was the trigger shot that was still in my body, and he told me that it wasn't.  That it was the real thing.  He said that the trigger shot stays in your body for about 8 days.  He said that it wasn't uncommon to have a chemical pregnancy the first time around.  I must admit, that it was nice to see 'Pregnant' on the window of the HPT.

Thanks for asking.

My Dr ok'd me to use pre-seed. He said it is better to do iui with clomid but the pre-seed doesn't hurt anything if having timed intercourse at home. I used it this last month with no luck but I have heard that it does work.... I plan on using it again this month. being on clomid having intercourse at home with no lubricant is very uncomfortable so that is why I asked if I could use pre-seed. Does this answer your question?

Hi Interwoven2340-

I, too was on the fence on what to do regarding acupuncture first before jumping into an IUI. After meeting with my fertility doctor and he gave me the clomid challenge coupled with the IUI's as an option, I told him I was going to wait a few months and I went to acupuncture only. After a few months, I decided to include the clomid/IUI with the acupuncture.  Definitely decide on your own pace. You cannot go wrong with trying just the acupuncture first and then see what happens....

Good luck to you!! Keep us posted:)

Thank you for your response.  It's a tough call.  With my first IUI, I added acupuncture right before I did the IUI, and it was a great help.  I am leaning towards combining them both (acupuncture + IUI) now just because I feel that I have increased my egg quality as a result of the herbs, acupuncture, and the supplements.  We'll see.  I have one more day to decide!

Thanks for your support, and I will keep everyone posted.

All the best to you all.

I know preseed is a lubricant and clomid dries you up...if it doesnt "hurt" the sperm, then does it help in anyway?  in other words, does it aid in the sperm travel if you have "hostile" cm (as they call it?).  I am on cd 11 and i think by cd 13, if i havent ovulated, then they want to do an ultrasound to see if my follicles are ready and then give me a shot of ovidrel then iui.  Last month I didnt ovulate on 50mg of clomid.  This month I started on day 3 with 100.  dont feel any different...not even getting achy by my ovaries.  Will this ever end?

do you have to order it on line?

to all: i have asked this before but got no response.  Has anyone gone from injectables to clomid and have had success???

Have you had an issue with clomid thinning your uterus?  I have read about that too.

by sassygirl35, Oct 06, 2009 03:32PM
To: wolfgangsmom
the research I have done on pre-seed is that it does help the sperm to swim easier. when on clomid like you said the cm is hostile to sperm but with pre-seed the sperm can swim through it. If you have a peoples pharmacy where you live, they have pre-seed. Walgreens doesn't carry it. if no peoples pharmacy then you have to order it. I was lucky to be able to get it at peoples pharmacy. I paid $21 but I think you can get it cheaper online.
I went from clomid to injectible with no luck. I didn't even ovulate so I went back to clomid and still no luck but I do ovulate with the clomid. I hope this answers your question.

I have only gone from Clomid to Follistim. I think as long as you are getting good sized follies, it really doesn't matter. I do know that Follistim is more "controlled" than Clomid, but they both do the same thing. As I'm sure you know, Follistim is also much more expensive (that's my biggest concern) but the dosage can be altered to get your follies where they need to be or to calm down if there are too many within a good range. I hope this helps a little anyway. I had also written some info on Clomid reducing your estrogen in my last post for you...wasn't sure if you saw it =)

Good Morning Ladies,

Hope that everyone is doing good today.  I mustered up the courage to call my RE's office to get the results of my bloodwork and was pleasantly surprised.

My FSH is now at 10.9 (previously at 12.9) and my Estrogen level is at 21 ( I can't remember what it was before).  Not too sure about the estrogen, but they said that they like to see a number less than 65.

I was happy about the #'s.  I truly believe that the FSH came down because of acupuncture and herbal therapy.

I have acupuncture tonight, but did not take my herbs this morning because I have decided to combine the IUI treatment with acupuncture.  I start on my injections tonight.

Wish me luck!

Thinking of you all...........

hi ladies!! I am new to this forum but felt so encouraged and got good vibes form you all.  Me and dh have been married for almost 3 years and though my husband may say we have only been trying for 1.5 years i have been trying since wedding night :).  Needless to say i was not getting pregnant.  i then tried clomid and my ovaries didnt respond at all.  even at the maximum 200 dose.  all it did was screw up my vision. i see trail lines all the time now when im tired.  So then last february we contacted an fertility doc who put me on 450 iu follistimand lupron 9/08 with accupuncture.  i got 11 eggs only and 8 mature. of the 8 only 3 fertilized but did not start spliting til after the second day. we only had one to transfer and it was a bust. so we went again and started in 12/08-1/09 for ivf 2. this time 450 iu follistim and 3 vials menopur and heparin twice a day.  again 11 eggs but surprise all immature.  they grew them in the lab and only 2 could fertilize. transfered 2 and nothing.  after this left to another practice that works with the womans cylce.  the other practice was off saturdays and sundays.  so now at a new one who diagnosed me with POF and pre diabetes in Jan 09'. went on metformin had strict low carb diet ( is till do not eat anything with sugar) and lost about 45 pounds so far.  march 09 did clomid challenge with 50 mg and got one follie.  triggered but nothing.  dh sperm is a bit sluggish too.  so waited some months trying on my own and nothing.  9/09 decided on iui. did 150 mg clomid with 3 menopur and got 16 follies.  triggered monday with two ovidrel this time and had 4 mature eggs with 2 days of iui 10/06 and 10/07.  Hoping it works this time especially since our adoption plan for december this year fell through.  Im glad though i found this group!!

Good Morning Ladies,

Seems that it has been quiet here since yesterday.  Hopefully you all are doing well.

Welcome sindlye5 to our forum, and best of luck to you as you are in your 2WW.
I am also suffering from POF.  Seems that you have responded well to the medications because you produce a good number of follicles, which is a good thing.

I started my injections last night at 450IU of Follistim and am hoping for the best.
It is a high dose, but my RE said that if I produce the same # of eggs, then he will lower it back down to 300IU.  All the best to you.

Baby dust to all............

Thanks for all of the input.  I was looking for a local place to get preseed last night.  Then I took my opk test and it tested positive...so we did it last night and this morning I went in for an iui.  The nurse said that cm was really good.  She said I had a lot of it and it was clear....I was surprised since I was sooooooooo afraid of hostile cm.  On the downside, my hubbys sperm count was 16 million motility...I guess we should have abstained last night......He normally has really high counts.  He is under the weather today.  I did not expect a positive surge yesterday so today was really hectic getting things together.  So, now I am in the two week wait.  Cross your fingers girls.  On sunday I start the progesterone suppositories.

I am sorry, but I missed your post...i did find it and read it.  My estrogen level was normal in july...it just took a lot of injections to get me going...so hopefully today will be the day.

I stand by my symptoms...i would take cramping as a good sign...better than not feeling anything...

I was surprised to see a positive ovulation test last night...had my iui today....so I am on my two week wait.

What day are you?  Good luck to you.

Well my friends, my IUI didn't work. I had a feeling it didn't this past Monday night when I got some pretty extreme cramping and spotting (like AF was coming). I tried to stay positive and tried to tell myself it was just implantation stuff. Well, by the time I had my pg test Wednesday, I just knew...and I was right. It was a negative. I ended up getting AF that evening. It's okay, but I'm starting to get a little down again. I get to a point where I don't know what to do, but I guess we'll go another round with Follistim and IUI.

Fingers crossed for you wolfgangsmom...my thoughts and prayers are with you in these next 2ww =)

Good luck, God bless and Baby Dust to ALL!!!

Also...Welcome Tgirl21 and sindlye5.

Tgirl21: I have not had any experiences with the issues that you mentioned, but I know exactly how you feel about all of your friends getting pregnant. Good luck to you!

sindlye5: I actually have a question for you...how long were you injecting Follistim. My first cycle with Follistim last cycle, and I was on it for 3 weeks. I have PCOS and we were just going very slowly. I'm hoping this month, I won't be on it for quite so long. Good luck to you as well!

Hi Nokoutem,

I know that it is easier said than done, but try to stay positive.  We all know that a new cycle brings us the possibility of our little miracles happening!  Hang in there.

ALL: Nothing new for me....just doing my injections, acupuncture...but no herbs.
Going for an ultrasound and bloodwork on Sunday.

Best of luck to you all in your 2WW...I am here thinking of you all.

thanks for your well wishes...

Nokoutem...you have to stay positive...all of us here can feel what you were going through....hang in there....keep the faith!

interwoven: with my last round of injectables in July, they started me at 300 and then upped it to 450 as well....it took forever to get two follicles to mature...and since I was paying out of pocket, the stress of that was  freaking me out.  thats why i had no choice but to start with the clomid....being 43 (a very young 43...by the way) may not give me as good a chance.  Hang in there....what is POC?

Hi Wolfgangsmom:

Thanks for your reply.  It's such a high dose of medication.  I am dizzy and having vivid dreams.  I attribute the dizziness to the estrogen patch and the vivid dreams to the Follistim.  The cramping is starting (which I don't know if it is a good or a bad thing at this point), but here are the symptoms all over again!  Last month, I was on the 300IU of Follistim and I was on it for about at 7-8 days...I guess the eggs matured fast?
I was able to get pregnant, but as you read previously, it turned out to be a chemical pregnancy.

And yes, a very young 43 you are! I have a good friend of mine who is going to be 40 in January and she looks great.  I would have never guessed she was turning 40.

Good Luck to you in your 2WW.

Kiko33122:  I received my pregnancy strips yesterday morning.  Thank you very much for suggesting it to me.  I will start using them once I am in my 2WW to watch the HCG trigger shot leave my body.

Thanks!

Oh yes, I almost forgot.  POF is premature ovarian failure and describes a stop in the normal functioning of the ovaries in a woman younger than age 40.

A Dr. at my job at age 43 is expecting her first and she told me a vitamin to try so I will be picking that up today also. HAve a great day ladies and God Bless us all in our journey's WE WILL GET THERE!

WOlfgang/interwoven sorry for the late response....the real reason I wanted to try thr preseed is due to me having one tube whatever I can do that can make some of those little swimmers head to the right I am willing and ready to go there. My re says that is correct it just makes it easier for the sprem to travel...computer issues over :0 tt u ladies later have a blesse3d day and good luck in the 2ww!

I am at work and should be working...but instead I am glued to this website....

That is weird...I can remember vivid dreams too, ,when I was on a high dose...back in january, I think I was taking 150/day and dont remember feeling anything.  Hang in there...good thing your eggs mature early.  I was told the quality of them is better if you ovulate sooner than later.

Sorry to hear about the POF...its amazing how all of our stories are different.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Bfromthed: I was wondering what happend to you...anyway...good luck with the preseed. did you mean you are going for an ultrasound on those days?  I was supposed to go in for an ultrasound yesterday, but because I cked positive, had the iui...What a day it was.  My husband was at work already, had to get a sterile cup from the drugstore, drive to detroit so that my husb could "produce" the sample...then drive all the way to M59, with the cup against my stomach...drive back to detroit, then back to the office for the procedure.  His count was 16 which is not good.  Normally he is above average.  We did it the night before, so that may be why.

anyway, keep us posted...oh, and can you tell me the name of that vitamin that your doctor friend took?

thanks...good luck to everyone!

wolfgangsmom:  I am at work too....and should be working, but I can't stop writing!
I hope that my eggs mature early this month too.  The medication (as you know) really puts a strain on me physically.  I can't sleep past 4:30am either..it's crazy!
What a day you had yesterday.  A lot of running around.  I'm sure it will be worth it!

bfromthed:  Where have you been!  I am glad that you are good.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Have a great weekend all!

to Nokoutem :  it has been awhile since i used follistim  but i only remeber usuing it for less than 10 days.  but then my previous Fertility doc was making us cycle according to HIS schedule and not my body so that is probably why i had BFN before.

All:  Thank you all for the invite!!  Well i finally stopped cramping but have been experiencing constipation unfortunatel (i know TMI) other than that i took a pg test even though i know that the hcg was still there but i just wanted to visualize what a positive pg test looked like:) so the waiting still insuses and I am not sure what to think. I am just hoping that no matter what we have ababy next year b/c we r also considering adoption but i really would like my own first ( i know it is selfish but i just do!)

Hoping there are some BFP to come!!!

I had my check up today, and my Ovaries are filled with teeny little follies which is good considering I have PCOS; however, on my right ovary, there is still one slightly bigger one that just won't go away (we drained it last month...it measured over 40 then). Anyway, I got the okay to start my Follistim again tomorrow and we're starting at 125IUs. Hopefully, I won't have to be on it as long this time but still get some good follies (but not too many either).

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. I am so glad I found this thread!

Hi, I am brand spankin' new! I had my 1st ever IUI today! I think it would be great if everyone could post their age...I am 41 and have never been pg. I got a real good doc and had a septum removed. I hope after all these years I can get pg! I only had ovidrel yesterday morn. If this cycle doesn't work, I will do FD also next cycle. I am not as familiar with the Abbrev here, but am learning fast. Symptons today on IUI day: Nausea and fatigue(ovidrel side effects??) I will keep you posted. hopefully I am on the right blog...

Hi, welcome to this forum. We are glad to have you. I think you will be happy here. It is nice to know what every one is going through and what kind of cycle plan they are on. I am 36 yrs old and have never been PG. My husband and I have been trying for about 7 years and then someone referred me to a OBGYN who also specializes in Fertilty. We are unable to afford IVF (Invitro). My husband and I have been seeing him for 1 1/2 years with no luck. Dr doesn't understand why the IUI's aren't taking. My husband and I are both fine. I am overweight but dr assured me that won't keep me from getting pregnant. it might just hinder pregnancy a little. Right now I am just taking clomid at home with timed intercourse for the next couple months.

If you have any questions, post them and I am sure someone will be able to answer them for you. Don't be afraid to be discriptive or gross because  we have all been thru it and understand the frustration.

Hi Everyone!  I just posted a comment, but now I see there is actually a "forum" to join, so I will try this instead.
I am 28 and have had two successful pregnancies.  Both were complete shockers (when I was 19 and 25).  So, I assumed when we were actually really ready, it would be cake.
Well...
Guess not.
It has been over 11/2 years...and sad.  So I feel for everyone out there.  I didn't understand this side of ttc before, so now I know how bad this side hurts.
Anyways, it started with ovarian cysts (just follicle ones--to which a month of Yaz cures up).  Then two months ago, I took Lexitrole for 5 days and built up two great follicles and good lining depth.
Unfortunetely, it didn't work and I again had follicular cysts to clear up.  On CD 3 they were gone, but on CD 12 I had one "oblong" follicle that was 18 x something...and one that was pleasing to Dr.
Anywas, my endometrial lining was only 2 mm...so dr. said to wait until CD 14 for the Ovidrel shot...
Do you think that is enough time?  All I do is read and research on the internet and worry.  Dr. seemed very positive and confident, but I am so scared of another BFN.
I know that I am in a different place than some of you because I have two healthy kids, but in my heart, I know I want more...so...
Also, does Lexitrole have the same effects as its harsher component Chlomid, as far as decreasing uterine lining thickness?  Dr. says Lexitrole is working for me, and he doesn't want to go to Clomid if we don't have to as the risk of multiples etc. increases.
Good luck to all!  I don't know why this is so hard for some and not others, but I know that doing everything we can is the first step!
