Lesley, I don't know the answer to your question but can feel the anxiety and despair in your question and wanted to send you a hug.

I can tell you that I had really bad pains/cramps and bleeding when I was 5-6 weeks pregnant (although I have no idea what my beta levels were as they don't tell you in the UK) but everything worked out well and am now 16weeks pregnant with a healthy baby so please don't give up hope. I have read stories where peoples beta levels start out slow at the beginning and then pick up.... I know its really hard but try and think positive. Do you have a follow up appointment/scan booked? I will be praying that your numbers start to increase and you get wonderful news. Take it easy this weekend and rest when you can. x

I am not sure I can answer your questions since I believe some of the data you have been given is incorrect.

IF you numbers is 710 then that is a great number, actually is really high for 4 weeks.  Now, if your number was higher than 710 and it lowered then there might be a problem.

Either way 710 is a very good number.  Maybe you meant to type 71.0 and in that case then its not a bad number either, unless you had a higher number before.

At 4 weeks my HCG levels were 71, 3 days later they were 389.  I would recommend that you talk to your doctor again and no matter how many time you have to ask get an explanation that you understand.  Dont give up, at the end of the day its your baby in the middle of everything and you need to be completely informed.

Good luck, please keep me informed.

Sorry forgot to address your symptoms,

As far as the diarrhea goes, are you taking any meds that maybe can have the side effect.  The lower back pain and cramps are normal.  Most women will feel them.  My sister is 7 months pregnant and she still has cramps from time to time.

Again., Goood luck

I agree with Lily MF.  I went through IVF and my first beta when I was 4 weeks (which should be approx. 14 dpo) was 700, it was extremelyhigh because I was pregnant with triplets.  Is this is your first beta ?  because something seems to be terribly wrong with the your Ob is saying.   Your numbers are great if this is your first number at 14 dpo

My first beta at 4 weeks was only 27!  Unless your number has dropped, the doctor can't really tell what is too low. (although i would never consider 710 at 4 weeks to be low anyway) The important thing is that your numbers double every 72 hours or so. In addition, I had period like cramps from 4 weeks, until around 8 or 9 weeks. I'm now 15 weeks and everything is going well with the baby so far! Don't give up hope!

Metformin is def the cause of your diarrhea.  I know from personal experience.

Good luck !

i always copped the diarrhea from the metformin. Maybe go on a basic diet for a couple of days to help with it! Congrats 71 is a great number for 4 weeks, they have to start from somewhere!  Good Luck!

I was 206, then 379 in my forth week.  Then as I entered my 5th week it went to I think 949.  They never said that was a problem for me, so I wouldn't worry. I think 710 is good for that early.
