late period

i had a miscarriage september 24 with a D&C on that day. It is now November 8 and still no period and i am aware that it can take up to 8 weeks or more. I have been having menstrual like cramps for about 8 days and i have taken a pregnancy test and it was negative. If i were pregnant at the most i could be would be 3 weeks. Could this be to early to test positive or what could be causing the cramps?
