I cant really say how long it will take to achieve. But for me (after 3 miscarriages)I took metformin for 5 months and got pregnant. I continued to take until about my 12th week of pregnancy and in Feb gave birth to a baby boy. I swear by metformin, I think it is great and for me I am convinced that my son was born bc of it. Keep trying and dont give up. Did your doctor say anything to you about polycystic ovarian syndrome..just wondering bc thats why I was on metformin.
Thanks for that, at least it gives me hope!!! My doctor did not say anything about pcos, what exactly is that?? Do you think if I took any "special vitamin", would it help? I have always heard to take geritol, do you know of anything better?
I have pcos. I was on metformin when I got pg (which unfortunately ended in ectopic)last yr.I was on it for 3 months and also had clomid those months. I am trying to get pg again and dr has me on metformin 850mg once a day as I can't tolerate it during the day.I am also using clomid. Hopefully it happens this time. Good luck to you.
I have been on met for 7 months now and nothing, clomid added to the daily pill taking and 3 months ago and the first try we thing i ovulated but it caused a very large painful cyst on right ovary, after cyst finally went down we are on trial for the sencond round of clomid. so far had a little sharp pain on left side about where ovary is on day 13 and doc checked by pelvic exam and found no cyst he thinks i ovulated. a day or two prior to day 13 it hurt to have sex and then burning sensation down there for a few minuted after i talked to doc and he said that ovulation since my body is not used to it can cause all of this. Any ideas or advice??? Wish us luck.
DH and I have been ttc since January 2006. I was told to try geritol...prenatal vitamins among other things...nothing worked. In August 2007 we went to see a RE and was put on metaformin 500mg once a day for a week then up to twice a day. Still not pregnant yet. I'm waiting for AF to show up so I can start my clomid and hcg injection. Good Luck to you!!
I was DX woth PCOS and was put staright onto Metformin, have been on Metformin for 3 months but it has not brought back my periods, so the fertility specialist has put me on provera to induce my period so I can get started straight on Clomid.
The experts say that used in combination there are really good results of pregnancy using both Metformin and Clomid.... But Every case is different. That is one thing that I have had to learn over the course of this 9 months of TTC... It's hard to accept bc you want answers now. But your body will work how it's going to work and there is no getting around that.
I am on 1000mg Metformin a day and will be starting on 100mg of clomid as soon as my cycle begins (which should be in about 7-10 days after stopping provera)
I am also having a procedure done where they inject dye into my cervix on CD12 which will show up any blockages aswell as flush out anything that shouldnt be there.... my doc also says a reprted higher fertility rate in the next 3 months after having the procedure, so Im really excited and nervous to start this journey!
Hi..well I have been tryn to get pregnant since Dec.2007 and so far no luck. I started out on 50mg of clomid, then 100mg.Also taken provera to induce my period. My doctor decided this past mth to put me on 200mg of Clomid and also 1000mg of Metformin.I took my last clomid pills yesterday so Im goin to pray that both of these will work this time!!! Hello I am new to PCOS and just need some up lifting. I been ttc for two years. just was told i have pcos three weeks ago and i am taking metformin.any help or advice would be great
I have been on 1500mg of Metaformin once a day since April for PCOS, and went three rounds with Clomid. I have had no success with either so the next option is injectables I guess.
Unfortunately, my husband and I have been living in two different states due to my new job relocating us. Clearly, that has not be conducive for us to move forward, but being on the Metaformin alone has not helped my regularity in anyway. My last round of Clomid was in June and I have only had my period once since then. My first month on Clomid, I had 5 cysts in one ovary and 6 in the other. The second month, I had one very large cyst in one ovary and what they thought was a follicle in the other, turned out not to be. The last month, again, they thought I had a follicle, so we tried IUI and nothing.
My suggestion, talk about the IUI option as soon as possible to give yourself the best chance during Clomid!
I'm 20 yrs old and was told I have PCOS. I have been trying to have a baby for two years now. The Dr. told me that was the reason I haven't been able to get pg. I just started metformin 500mg and Clomid at the beginning of this month. I see that you all had different results. I am hopefull and wish the best to all of you and would appreciate any advice.
I am new to PCOS as well. I was just diagnosed on Monday. After having 5 miscarriages, a 6 month long period (which ended with an emergency D&C), and now having tried for 4 months again with no luck at all, I feel desperate. The doctors kept telling me that I'm young and that since I've only been trying for 4 months this time, that nothing is wrong. Finally one listened.
I'm currently on day 57 of my cycle, so the doctor put me on Provera to induce my period. I'm on day two of the Provera and my stomach is killign me. Once we get the rest of the test results back next week, the doctor wants to put me on Metformin for 3 months, then (if I'm not pregnant) add clomid for three months after that. I just hope it all works out okay. I don't know if I can handle another miscarriage. It's so hard.
I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3 years ago. I already have 2 boys who are 5 and 6 but this was before all my symptoms of PCOS. We are trying now to have our third child. I was put on 2000 mg of Metformin about 2 years ago for the purpose of helping my symptoms and weight loss. After taking it about 8 months, my periods returned on their own every three months but I was also losing weight and eating healthier; watching my sugar intake. I took a lapse on the Metformin and eventually gained some weight back and lost my periods again. So I'm back on it, 2000 mg and getting ready to take Clomid for the first time. I also have to take Progesterone to have a period. My advise to everyone with a PCOS situation is to look to diet and exercise first, the medicine is wonderful and if you give it time it can work but if you don't change the way you eat and control/limit your sugar intake, you are spinning your wheels. PCOS is basically insulin poisoning of the ovaries. It causes the lining of the ovaries to thicken; therefore, you don't release an egg, your hormones get messed up etc. This is how my doctor explained it to me. I hope this helps and encourages. It can work.
