Ok!!! i was diagnosed when i was 16 with PCOS and was put on birth controlControl Control rx (but never took it) And i am now 22. last year in september i got pregnant after 2 cycles of Clomid of 200 mg. On December 18 i had a miscarriage (twins). My doc told me i couldnt try to get pregnant until april.(did not recieve a D&C after misscarriage) So in april she give me the medroxyprogestrone to make me start my period and then gave me the 200 mg of clomid for days 3-7. i had been taking it since then and have not gotten pregnant yet. i was wondering if maybe my weight might be the difference between now and then. cause when i got pregnant with my twins i gained 28lbs in the 14 weeks i was pregnant. and i have not lost any of the weight i have actually gained about 5 lbs more.
I think it could be a lot of things. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was around 22 and I am now 30. I did take birth controlControl Control rx pills and they never really helped me very much. That's just me though. I know a lot of womenWomen's way it does help. I am on 1500 mg daily of metformin (same thing as glucophage and fortamet) which helps a lot with the PCOS and with weight loss. I would check with my OB/GYN about taking this medicine. It has really, really helped me a lot and from what I understand is a pretty common medicine prescribed not only to women with PCOS but women trying to conceive. I joined a gym in the past, worked out every day for about 9 months, weight training, cardio, etc.. and lost about 5 pounds. Since being on this high dosage of metformin I have cut calories, exercised in moderation and have lost 24 pounds in about 4 months. Actually I lost about 22 pounds in 3 months and then got so sick from sinus infection, bad side effects from the clomid, etc.. that I stopped exercising and only dropped 2 pounds this past month. And I am insulin resistance so if I can do it then I'm sure you can take off your weight too. So, yes, I do think losing weight would help because as you probably know PCOS really puts us in a vicious cycle. You can't lose weight because of the PCOS and the weight makes the PCOS worse which in turn means it's even harder to lost weight, and on and on. And of course that can very much lead to insulin resistance, etc... The other thing that you must keep in mind though is that this is not an exact science and that you have to be under a great deal of stress after going through what you've been through (which makes weight loss even harder). Keep in mind, the average rate of pregnancy for a perfectly healthy couple with NO fertility issues in their 20s is something like 20 percent (and I may be slightly off here on my statistics so this is a give or take figure) per cycle. I am undergoing IUI treatments and my first one didn't take. My fertility doctor said that the high success rate of IUI is attributed to it being spread out over the course of six cycles. In other words it works for most couples if you stick with it for six months or longer. Just because you aren't getting pregnant straight away as you did last time doesn't mean that there is something wrong. It can take a while. Hang in there and if you are really concerned then talk to your doctor about it. Also, go ahead and check on the metformin. It's a rough medicine to get used to but the benefits are fabulous. And if the metformin is too difficult for your system check into fortamet, same thing but it's coated for your stomach. I'm so very sorry about your miscarriage. I can't begin to imagine how difficult that must have been. Hang in there and good luck to you!
