why is it so hard for me to have a baby

by jnitro26, Jul 10, 2009 02:44PM
i went to see the fertility specialist yesterday after having emergency surgery for an ectopic, and i got my right fallopian tube removed, and he said we could do booster shots for 3 cycles and it will cost me $4500 and I have a 5% chance of ot working. He really recommends i get ivf, which is about $12000. I dont have that kind of money. he believes that my left fallopian tube is bad, as i have been trying for 6 years. so i dont know what to think or what to do at this moment, any advice would be great.

They should check the remaining tube to see if it is open. If it is not, can it be unblocked? IVF is expensive and if you don't have coverage for it, it can be untouchable for many.  I am sorry you are going through so much.

$12,000 isn't bad if that includes meds and everything. Maybe they offer a finance program?  My dr just started offering one since my last tranfer. It was a relief to find that out. I was worried how I was going to afford another try. Hopefully, you will find the answer that works best for you soon.

I am sorry to hear what you go through... Everything happen for a reason ... keep up the hope and the faith.. you will get BFP soon.

My best advice to you.. don't try so hard... the harder you try, the less you get... first you have to take good care of  yourself... eat balance diet, regular exercise, reduce stress, relax mind and body.

I was tried for 21 months and each months I got depressed and so frustrated.. I planned to take off couple months to relax then the month I took off was the month I got pregnant... Today I am 13 weeks.

Nothing is impossible...

i had an hsg done a year n a half ago and both my tubes were open, they feel that both of my tubes are blocked, something isnt right because it took me and my dh 6 years to get pregnant.

Sorry to hear that you are faced with such a challenge. I have to disagree with BabyBlue07, though; "don't try so hard" is a very vague piece of advice. What does it even mean? If your doctor says that IVF is your only option and money is an issue, I would look into financing options. First, however, make sure that your husband is fine and check out the other tube. If that one is working, you still have a decent chance at conception with proper treatment. Good luck!

I agree w/pol79princess:  We're ALL trying!  That's why we stick together, on here.  :)))

You are all in my prayers!  Take care.  Stay strong.  Keep the faith.  Stay positive in everything you do.

I recently had a tubal reversal and only ahve one tube. The dr said I have a good chance of sucess. Tina is right though can it be unblocked. Is it spasms from the HSG or on its own or scar tissue what? The dr needs to answer these things for you and not just spot off costly things. Explore your options. Somet imes they can remove the other ovarie to make you O from the good side every time. What trigger shots was he talking about? Never heard of this

UPDATE
I went to the dr monday to get my blood work results and the dr told me i have excellent egg quality and i had between 8-9 eggs per ovary, so that made me so happy, then on wednesday i went back to get an hsg to see if my left tube was open, well my left tube is open, but he said he thought it looked a little swollen, so he put me on an antibiotic, so i go back in 2 weeks and my dr is going to start me on some fertility pills, does anyone recommend a certain one? any advice would be great.

update-
i went back to the dr on monday, to discuss my hsg results from my left tube, since its the only one i have left. well the results were bad, my left tube is swollen really bad, and i have tubal disease, so i need ivf, and he said it would be a miracle if i got pregnant, and he said if i did, it was like a 95% chance it would be another ectopic. so i am really bummed out. we dont have the money for ivf

jnitro26- I am so sorry you are going through this.  I know it's hard.  I had to get both of my tubes removed. Did he mention anything about removing your left tube?  If you decide and are able to do ivf you will probably have a better chance if that one is removed.

I am so sorry.  I know IVF is very expensive but hopefully in the future you will be able to have it done. Does your doctor offer reduced rates for self pay?

by jnitro26, Aug 19, 2009 01:37PM
he told me it would be about $12,000 for ivf

and he didnt say anything about removing my left tube. Why would it be better if I got it removed for ivf?

by rghkah38, Aug 19, 2009 02:48PM
If your tube is disease it can cause your embryos not to implant.  That is what was told to me by my clinic.  It depends on how bad your tube is.

by rghkah38, Aug 19, 2009 02:56PM
I don't want to scare you, but I think you should ask your dr. about the percentage rate of implatation with your tube.  He might say it's fine.

Have you checked into financing?  What about Fertilethoughts, or (there is another one but aI cannot remember the name!) where I heard they will give you 1 supply of meds for one IVF if you cannot afford it.  I heard about it on this website somewhere.  I would search the fertility site.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry to hear about your news...Like all the others are saying look into financing, there are options. Equity on your home, line of credit? I know my fertility clinic has a program for low income families to get financial support, maybe your family can pool together and help. Don't lose hope, where there's a will there is a way, i am living proof. We had a friends mom hear our story and lend us the money, she was an angel sent from God. Just ask around and look at all your options
