DIZZY

by luckydzack1, Sep 18, 2008 07:41AM
I am wondering if dizzyness goes with FM or CFS? I have been diagnosed with both but everytime I mention my dizzyness to the doc he just ignores me. I am always dizzy when I look up,down, or am sitting & go to tie my shoes. I get dizzy when I roll over to my left side or flat on my back in bed. Does anyone else get this or should I push the subject with my doctor again?
Thanking you in advance for any comments.

Hi there,

Wow, someone I can actually help for once :-)

I have had CFS for 6 years and one common sympton is 'orthostatic intolerance', meaning low blood pressure which comes with dizziness! Low blood pressure is apparently experienced by a lot of CFS sufferers, so I'm surprised that your Dr is ignoring you, although maybe that's why they are? Maybe they assume you know it's part of your CFS?

I was prescribed Hydralazine and Slow-K to begin with and have more recently been on Hydrocortozone for Hypotension, which is serious low blood pressure.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about the dizziness, except to be careful and try not to flare it up. (This is hard to do for me - my workplace, a school, is 2 storys with our staff room on the top floor hehe) You could ask your Dr if they could test your blood pressure or whether they think you could take something to raise it.

I hate to say it also but if your Dr isn't listening to you, maybe you should see a different Dr? I had really bad flare up last year and I didn't think it was CFS still - the Dr I was seeing didn't even consider it and it turned out, when I finally went to another one recently, that that's what it was all along!

Hope this helps?

Mel :-)

The problem with me is I am on the boarder line of high blood pressure so my doc put me on beta blockers.
If the dizzyness is from the CFS or FM why doesn't the doc just tell me so, instead of ignoring me.

To all that are dizzy.....it can be related to so many different and interrelated things.....chiari malformation, ehlers danlos....the fibro, thyroid issues......keep insisting the drs give you a complee check up to determine what it is so it can be treated correctly.

Good Luck and
Godspeed

the doctor ignores you because they DON'T KNOW why you  get dizzy. A known side affect of Beta blockers is dizzyness and light headedness. Were you dizzy before you started on them? I have been getting dizzy and feeling drunk on and off for over 20 years and the more doctors I see and the more tests I have the more I conclude that the doctors don't know WHY we get anything ! They prescribe drugs from their textbooks and if they don't work they say it's just in our imagination.
I have something wrong with my central nervous system but they don't know what. I have heart rythym problems, get breathless for no reason, every joint in my body is arthritic and aches and aches, I can't sleep, I have digestive reflux, my stomach either makes too much acid or sometimes not enough and I feel sick all the time, I have chronic headaches, feel exhausted, have tingling in my arm and hand, sometimes have to sit or lay down for hours on end and on and on it goes. The diagnosis after 20 years of specialists and tests? Hmmmmm.... Try to relax more. Do meditation... take Valium... $220 please - next patient.. I wish you Good luck - sorry to sound negative but you're not alone and try to get used to it if you can.
There is one thing I took which did stop the dizzy business and its called SERC!! I can only take it in short stints because all drugs upset my stomach, but it really does stop it for about 6 hours if you take a tablet. Ask your doctor.
Best wishes, Kev

Well i have fibromyalgia for years now, and I can tell you i have a lot of bouts of dizziness. However at one stage, it was more severe and prominent, like when I bent over, got out of bed, rolled on my side in bed, etc. That type of dizziness was like the room was spinning around. I went to my doctor and he said this type of dizziness was actually Vertigo, which comes & goes. I was on medication for that and yes, it did settle down. It comes back occassionally, but with the medication it settles. As i said, this is a different type of dizziness I get from the fibromyalgia. I even had to go to the Neuro Surgeon to diagnose the differences of my dizziness and he did. Now I can tell the difference between the 2 types of dizziness. Good luck
