Help me. Do I have fibromyalgia?

by hm2007, Feb 04, 2007 12:00AM
Two years ago I hurt my back lifting weights and got a sharp pain in my hand, followed by numbness of two smaller digits and then tingling in hand and arm. Tingling lasted about 4 months, but went away. Soon after I started having severe earaches and went to the doctors many times thinking I had an ear infection. They saw nothing and said it could be TMJ.  A few months later I woke up with permanent ringing in my ears, neck pain and dizziness.  I was really anxious and depressed about my life at this time, so I thought it was stress. I started having TMJ treatments, but the tinnitus never got better. Doctor refered me to a back specialist who diagnosed me with possible Thoracic Outlet Syndrome or cervical radiculopathy. I did physical therapy for about 2 months, but soon started having tons of dizziness, severe neck pain, pain in legs, spasms in shoulders, twitches all over the body.  I got an MRI of my spine which came back normal (no pinched nerve). During this time I started feeling "buzzing" sensations in my leg and feet. Doctors thought it was peripheral neuropathy and were not too concerned about being MS. I had an EMG of my arm which came back normal. A month later I started having vertigo and went to the ER again and was told it was Benign Positional Vertigo. I've also had terrible IBS since everything started. It alternates between horrible bloating and diarrhea. I do have real TMJ problems too Also, I have hypermobility in my joints and tons of crepitus, I mean every part of my body makes crackling noises when I move.

I just wanted to add that most of my symptoms are on my left side.  Ever since I hurt my back on that side and (I believe) developed TOS things just sort of derailed and my whole left side is now affected.

Fibromyalgia causes pain and symptoms on both sides and upper and lower body.  It could be the start of it. It usually starts up after an illness or accident (injury). In the PC address put in "common symptoms of fibromyalgia" to see what else matches your symptoms. If you think you have it, bring a copy of the symptoms from the site (highlight yours) to your doctor and ask for a referral to a reumatoligist.  Good luck with your search and healing

I had that whole thing. I thew my back out boweling afer 2 months after a c-section. I was in a lot of pain for about 2 years .I started getting headachs and my whole body hurt . My jaw my throat ect.. I went to an ENT who did test and said my ANA was high then I took all lupus and rumitoid tests every thing normal except for the ana and esr . (this goes back 5 1/2 years. over that time my leg was numb and sayed that way for about 2 months. I used a roll on arthritis to numb the buzzing.Evertime I had a b.m. it would buzz down my leg. One dr. said fribomyaliga and gave me ambian and I lived on them for about a year.   Ran to to dr. to do a mri to rule out MS. After that I saw a new back dr. who gave me a steriod injection in my back and the next day I was pain free for about 3 months I had to get them a couple of more times and for the last year I haven taken any. My back is a good 75% better. I thought it was fribro and I still get fleeting stabbing pains especially if you get depressed. I think it goes hand in hand. I think if you are in pain you get depressed and if you are depressed you get many symtoms you wouldnt get if you were only hurt. Example you sprain your ankle.. you know its your ankel and you might be upset but, not depressed once you get depressed you stomach hurts, headaches the ones behind your eyes, stabbing pains not sleeping, running to the computer evertime you have a new pain.-what do you think?

No one can tell you whether you have fibromyalgia, via the Internet.  Generally a diagnosis of fibromyalgia requires your doctor to run extensive tests to rule out other possible causes for the symptoms you are having.
