PMS making CFS even worse!

by SuzCat, Oct 11, 2009 10:36AM
I just had 2 days of lying in bed like a zombie, following on from 5 days of much-worse-than-normal CFS fatigue. Terrible headache - but not a migaine. Just unrelenting discomfort in my head and behind my eyes. Zero energy, achy limbs. Couldn't read, could barely get up to go to the bathroom.

Then I got my period. 12 hours later, I woke up feeling so much better. I've done so many chores today, without feeling that awful draggy, "forcing myself" sensation. You know - trying to animate a corpse!

My husband pointed out that I've been like this for the last 4 months. I get days when I'm the walking dead like this, over the months, but usually because I've over-exerted myself. This comes even when I'm carefully pacing, in the week before I start.

Does anyone else suffer from Pre-Menstrual worsening of CFS symptoms? What can I do about it?
I take the contraceptive pill, which my best friend is convinced is making things worse, but my DH and I don't like the alternatives. Mind you, if coming off the pill would give me more of that kind of energy, we could get used to rubbers, I'm sure!

Thanks everyone.

I hear ya GF ! For awhile I wasn't getting any periods, but when I do have them... I feel exhausted and often get a severe migraine headache with them. This is going to sound strange, but when my CFS symptoms are worse and I've had enough, I go to the drug store and purchase Oscillococcium (homeopathic flu medicine) and it helps with the fatigue and pain !

I hope you feel better soon !

Hugs,

Hey! PlateletGal! Thanks being there!
I feel so awful right now - but psychologically uplifted by my day of normality! My brain is thudding right out of my skull and I need to go lie down. After I throw up.

I woke up aching all over (maybe I shouldn't have run on the beach with my dog and kids? **** it to hell - I gotta live when I can!) but thinking of all I accomplished yesterday and feeling so alive. I cooked 2 nutritious meals! I had fun with my family! I went to my bookclub meeting! I didn't nap at all! It makes it all the harder that days like that happen only once every few weeks.

I don't want to go lie down. I DON'T WANT TO GO LIE DOWN! I'll be down for 3 hours and then my kids will be home and I know I'll be dragging myself through the day in horrible pain, running on empty, till I can collapse again. And who knows - maybe I wont wake up like I haven't slept, but it's not likely. ****, ****, ****, ****!

I think I'll get my DH to pick me up some of those homeopathic pills of yours!
Sorry to clutter up the Forum with my CFS ranting. But I have to get it out or explode. OK, now I'm gonna go throw up.

No need to apologize for speaking the truth ! ; ^)

Let me know how that Oscillococcium works for you. For me, it helps with all of my CFS symptoms. Don't drink, eat or brush your teeth 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after taking each dose. I swear by the stuff.. that's one of my tricks for getting by thru the rough times.

Hang in there... remember it is only temporary (my favorite word !)

I have FMS and I go through the same kind of thing around my periods.  I'll consider trying the Oscilloccium.  I had no idea that it could work for anything other than colds and flus.

Temporary? HA! This SO doesn't fit the dictionary definition of Temporary. Um, let's see. Unrelenting is more accurate LOL!

Can't find the Oscillo stuff in my little rural town. I'll order some on the internet. Saviour of the exhausted, isolated and ranting loonies (well, me, anyway).

Oscilloccium is made for if you have the flu.... so it is good to have a box on-hand anyway (my opinion). And I can tell you that my great aunt (in her late 70s or early 80s) took some when she had the flu and she swore that she recovered sooner. Her recovery was amazing... she had a high fever on Wednesday, took Oscilloccium on Thursday and was doing dishes on Saturday ! On Sunday, she said that she felt great and even went to church.

So for those of us who live with flu-like symptoms, I know the product has helped me a great deal on bad CFS days. It makes my CFS symptoms so much better.
