Alternative Medicine for Fibromyalgia

Finally ! I am so happy to see that the Mayo Clinic and American College of Rheumatology lists complementary medicine as other therapies that may benefit fibromyalgia. I know "alternative" medicine (AKA: pre-western medicine) has been a blessing for me. I work not only with my specialist, but also with an alternative medicine practitioner as well and thank God for both of these compassionate, educated men.

"Complementary and alternative therapies can be useful in pain management for people with fibromyalgia, although these treatments have generally not been well tested."

http://www.rheumatology.org/public/factsheets/diseases_and_conditions/fibromyalgia.asp?aud=pat

"Several of these treatments do appear to safely relieve stress and reduce pain, and some are gaining acceptance in mainstream medicine. But many practices remain unproved because they haven't been adequately studied."

Hi ted -  Just to let you know, if you have questions it's always best to begin a new post so that it isn't missed and others can respond.  Savella is a prescription drug, as opposed to being 'alternative medicine'.

We do have one member here who is trying this medication.  Here is the link to her comments about it and it seems she is doing very well.  I hope she will be back today and can give you more highlights about her journey.

Good luck and I hope the medication does great for you!

P.S.  They need to add alternative medication to the health care reform agenda, as most insurance companies do not cover the costs.

I'm glad to see this as well.  We know that the reason they do stress alternative medicine is because it's not profitable for the pharmaceutical companies or physicians who prescribe drugs.  Since i've been using the silver product, i've noticed a huge change in my energy level.  This after being basically bed-ridden for over 3 years.  This, along with my daily supplements, has made more of a difference than any physician i've seen in the past decades has.

I do advocate the use of accupuncture.  I've had it done before and it does work.  It is something one would have to keep up on, like a weekly basis or so.  Just as with a chiropractor.  Accupuncture can also be beneficial for any type of withdrawal symptoms from medications or nicotine.

Right now, without acknowledgement of FMS or it's severity, we are left with alternative meds.  And they are working!!!
