Hi ! Weren't you the one who was treated before for mycoplasma infection and then had some success ? Did you try getting tested for other bacteria(s) and/or viruses?

This is what Dr. Mark Shaw (he has fibro & CFS) has to say on what causes CFS and fibro:

Recent research points toward a variety of triggers prevalent in these conditions.

1/ a chronic bacterial infection which has overrun your immune systems ability to cope.

You can be infected through a variety of mediums. The Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous systems are compromised and damaged. The condition is then maintained and exacerbated by musculoskeletal imbalance in the thoracic region causing irritation of the surrounding nerve ganglia.

2/ a viral/ chemical exposure which entered your system causing brain and spinal cord lesions, simultaneously leaving the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous systems in a state of chaos. The condition is then maintained and exacerbated by musculoskeletal imbalance in the thoracic region causing irritation of the surrounding nerve ganglia.

3/ a viral/ chemical exposure which entered your system causing a temporary brain injury to the area of the brain that deals with immune response.

I agree with you about mold spores. And how about those coal miners getting black lung disease because of working with dust ?

Interesting also about what I went through............You may remember my history of EBV, M. pnumonaie, which developed CFS then full blown FM.  During all this I had violent headaches and became suspicious of the very old ventilation system/air conditioning system in the house, so my husband pulled out the wall and saw mold which he deemed common, I thought, be safe than sorry.  I sent it to be tested and primarily it was safe but there were some very dangerous molds in there like stachybatris.  We had the whole air system torn out, all the ventilation system tubes replaced, wood replaced, floors replaced and now we have a filter system on our new air filtration system that has a light that kills bacteria.

I stayed out of the house for all of this, the house was bleached down where they traveled through carrying the stuff.  The rest of the house was blocked off.

Before my breathing got heavy and I got a headache as soon as the air went on, Now it is a pleasure.

It is amazing what mold spores can do to us.  I had a health check up related to the toxins also.

P.S. the mycoplasma test you sent me I had and everything was negative. Thanks.

I'm glad the information was helpful. I know I found the article enlightening and it made sense to me because I also had a gradual-onset of CFS. After I had mono... I had fatigue and then frequent infections (as Dr. Chia mentions). I was always on antibiotics and always fatigued. As the years went by, my symptom list kept growing.

I'm glad Dr. Chia mentions these infections before developing CFS. As I tell people in the EBV forum, I believe that in my case, that EBV was the trigger of my illness. Of course then my immune system was weakened and that led to other infections.

My friend, who has a very high IQ, was telling me how he went to the medical library and was reading medical books from 1909. He said back then physicians believed there were two reasons for illness: parasites and fungus. Now how many of us have been diagnosed with parasites or fungus ??? But I found his comments interesting because Dr. OZ was on Oprah and he said that the majority of Americans have had parasites. Anyway, I would add one more cause of illness to the list (especially now that we have high powered microscopes): pathogens.

Hey, Hope you're well,  Thank you for the article!  I sent it to my Gastroenterologist and friend of mine.

This makes sense to me, for me.  As you know during times of stress our immune system weakens. Recently I became ill with the usual fibro pains and flu symptoms plus my usual upper abdominal pain.
I've been tested, but post pain, for everything with a biopsy, scope, US and nothing but inflammation.  I believe the standard tests are for cancer and the bacteria that causes ulcer.
My Dr. was confused, this article may help, Thank you!! AGAIN

As someone who has gradual-onset CFS, I very much appreciate the article and correspond almost exactly to the profile presented in the first part of the article.

"Obvious" symptoms began at the start of April, preceded a couple of months before by respiratory/cardiac issues (though not quite as early as October-December, it was more like January/February).  GI symptoms would have been masked by ongoing recovery from Celiac Disease.  While there was no long-lasting fatigue (i.e., the "weeks" suggested in the article) in any previous illness, there WAS a flu a couple of years earlier that fatigued me significantly for a couple of days, so that could be the one they were talking about.
