Are sed rates conclusive?

Are sed rates conclusive?

Sed rate did not indicate inflamation (inflammation) but Rx for prednisone dramatically relieved pain & increased energy also seemed to help my allergies so I am wondering if I could have polymyalgia or some other autoimmune disorder rather that would respond to the medication? Are there other tests?

My sed rate was normal, but my CRP was high. The CRP measures inflammation and it is a more sensitive test. I would suggest asking your physician to order a CRP next time you see him/her.

I will do that. I am so happy to have energy again & to be free of the debilitating pain but I'm afraid it won't last.  The doctor wants me to decrease the prednisone but I don't want to since I feel so much better

Prednisone is pretty powerful stuff, so do consider what the doctor is telling you, and importantly, research it on your own so you can be informed on what's best for you.

I was wondering about something.  I had to wait to do my tests for lupus and R. Arthritis for several weeks.  They did a Sed Rate and RNA?  Anyway, I had been taking my Prednisone again for almost three weeks when I was finally able to get them done.  Could this have prompted a negative result?

Also, when I was looking for answers on here yesterday I noticed Crohn's Disease and found that I actually have some of the symptoms of it.  Most especially the digestive problems.  Extended abdomen with pain.  (I look like I am seven or eight months pregnant especially after eating.)  It always feels like I have overeaten and I may have only eaten a few bites.  Then the stomach ache and extended belly.  I have diarrhea and constipation back and forth.  Completely lactose intolerant!!!!  Eggs are like poison to me.

I had an endoscope and a contrast c-t done to check my gall bladder.  It was producing fine and working fine and the scope didn't show any problem areas.

Is it possible that Crohn's could be an issue here?

I would think that the prednisone could have affected your sed rate result. I would consider calling your physician and asking him (or her). I would also consider asking him/her to order a CRP.. it is more sensitive than the sed rate test.
