Disappointed to have no response to my question about Provigil

To All: I'm very disappointed that no-one could help me with my question about what to do for extreme fatigue. I'm sure I'm not the only one suffering from this. Almost every question around mine had multiple responses. The least someone could have done is say they didn't know! I try to respond to posters, even if it's just with encouragment. With the vast knowledge of this forum group, surley one of you knows something! I think it is very important to support our members, especially when they have specific questions, that could lead to better treatment for fibro. On my way to the dr now, with no idea how to handle the situation. Sorry to sound harsh, but I try to only post questions that are important to me, and really hoped for some input before my dr's appt.

I just found this forum today.  I take provigil.  I have been taking it for about 3 yrs. for FMS.  The rhemotologist prescribed it for energy.  I cannot do without it. I take 200mg. each morning.  If for some reason I don't have it, I sleep off and on ALL DAY & NIGHT.  I really believe it helps me.  However, my mom tried it and it did not help her.

Hi Maggie,

I'm relieved that your doc find other stimulant to help you.  Still keep a watchful eyes on possible side effects so you won't head into more problems health wise.

There's RXlist site that drug company give assistance to low income people.  And another company that supplies cheap meds. 90 days for $30.00.  Let me know if you need the info.

Keep well.

I do understand about CFS/fibro fatigue. Some days the only thing I do is go to work. Have no energy for anything els, and not really that, have to force myself.

Zahboy.Provigil is used in many conditions as a stimulant t keep you awake. I found out today it is very expensive $500. a month, and insurance companies will fight giving it. My PCP is trying me with another stimulant drug Bontril. I took the first one today. I don't know if it was just knowing I had taken it, or if it really was working, but had no problems today. Hope that keeps up. It's only $25. a month with my co-pay, so that's not too much if it helps. I asked about inter-actions with my other pills, and dr said no inter-actions listed. It can cause tacycardia, but I already take ToprolXL to prevent the episodes I've had of that, so should be okay. Thannk you all for your replies, I really appreciate them.

Hello Maggie,

I, too, apologize for not responding to your question re extreme fatique medciine.   Like PlateletGal,  there're days we ME/CFSers just don't even have the stamina to get online which was exactly how I felt lately.

I just checked online 'drug.com' about Provigil......it is a stimulant drug to keep you awake among other things.....I  make  sure that I check drug interactions, side effects whenever I get a new medication, or even just for reminders.  I don't know of any drug that would take care one's extreme fatique other than pacing, and resting up.

Other than that, I do know B-12 shots helps a bit of your fatique.  Out of curiosity, do you know what's causing your fatigue?  have you doctor explained to you why you're so tired?

Please let us know how your doc. appt. turned out.

Gentle huggies,
Kit

I am sorry you didn't get a response about Provigil. Is it a Fibryo medicine. Having Fibryo is so tiring. I also have days and today is one of them, where everything I do is such an effort. The pain makes it even worse. My doc wants me to do water exercises, she said it helps with the fatigue. I haven't begun yet due to the expense of joining and paying the monthly cost. We only have one place in our town that offer's an indoor pool. I do want to start the water excercise as soon as I can because a friend of mine say's it has helped her. It is no miracle cure though, she still has some really bad days. But over all she says it has helped. Good luck and may GOD bless you.

I didn't answer your question because I don't know anything about Provigil. There are also people here with CFS, including myself, who only have so much energy to spend on forum. Some days I can't even post. So I hope you will understand.

The only suggestion I have is to make sure your physician knows that you don't feel safe driving because of your extreme fatigue. I would think then that he would be obligated to do something.

Best,

PlateletGal
