Duragesic withdrawl/ unexpected sudden stop

Hi,  I'm scared and curious.  I have been taking duragesic 25 for 3 months, then 50 for 3 months,  and Norco to take care of break thru pain.  Insurance is lost so can't take the patch. Having withdrawl still after over a week.  I still take norco, and trying to keep it to every 4 hours.  That works for about 2 hours and then the pain, chills, legs kicking feeling, all come back. Sweats at night are unbelievable.  Wet, then cold, at least 3 times last night.  Felt much better today after a really bad night.  Do you guys think It's gonna get better now. I HAVE to go to work.  I hate this!! Without pain control I'm afraid I won't be able to do my work.  I'm a classified sales ad manager/administrative assistant, and bosses aren't very understanding of Fibro/CFS at ALL!!  They are the "it's all in your head" people.  That makes it that much more difficult.  How long does this last and What else can I do to help myself through the night.  I have ambien and xanax too.  My xanax is .25mg.  What should I do? PLEEZ HELP.  I'm sooo scared.

Hi VaBreeze. Thanks for your response and concern.  It's nice to not feel alone.  I did get through the withdrawl.  I told my doctor today to NEVER give me anything that I can't afford in the event I lose my insurance again.  She gave me oxy IR today.  She only gave me 5 mg cause I had a bad experience with some other meds we tried in between.  MS Contin 60mg gave me a strange reaction.  She thought it may be an allergic reaction on the way so I turned that one over to her.  The Duragesic 50mg worked so well, but if I can't afford it I won't take it.  That's my new rule after the withdrawl experience.
So anyway, I have Norco 10/325 and the oxy IR.  I'm feeling much better today than I have in a few days.  I am going to look into the offers online and see what I can figure out.  You're awesome and you made me feel so much better.  Thank you.

The medication you were taking was an opioid.  These types of medication will typically require a weaning process.  A sudden stop may result in withdrawal symptoms. You indicated you've been off it for a week now, so the worst part is most likely over.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your insurance.  I'm not sure where you live, but you could check your area for free clinics or a hospital that serves the needs of those who don't have coverage.  Also, there are programs that work with pharmacutical companies to help people get the medications they need.  You can do an online search and maybe something there could help you.  Some companies also offer coupons or other incentives at their websites.

Unfortunately, fibro/cfs doesn't go away.  It may wane, but it doesn't leave and there is no cure available to date.  Good sleep is very important for both of these illnesses.  If the ambien and xanax isn't working, you would need to contact a physician for something that may be better able to help you.  Try not to drink any type of caffinated beverages 5-6 hrs. before bedtime as these could keep you from sleeping well.

Withdrawal from any drug is difficult.  If the symptoms are so severe that you are unable to sleep or perform your duties, you may need some help withdrawing.  I wish I could be of more help to you.  I know you are having a difficult time right now.  I honestly feel you need to contact your prescribing physician and talk with them about what is taking place.

I will keep you in my prayers and I hope things get better for you soon.
