Educating Physicians

I have a very good Rheumatologist who says that almost all of her patients have Fibromyalgia (I live in south Florida). The problem I have is with all my other doctors - Primary, Urologist, Neurologist, etc., that still do not believe that FM is a real syndrome/disease/ailment. I know it is currently considered a syndrome, but I've heard it is changing status as a disease because of positive test results on specific blood work.
My question is how do you educate physicians, especially when they roll their eyes at you and question FM and CFS written in your chart?
The 18 tender point chart means nothing to some of these doctors. I have almost all of the signs/symptoms listed for FM, and have a problem with all 18 tender points. I am insulin-dependent diabetic, have a neurogenic bladder (from anesthesia), peripheral neuropathy, 17 herniated disks in my back and a failed back surgery. I have chronic pain in my back, neck, and especially my legs, and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in both hands ( x 2 surgeries so far). I am currently disabled at this point. Some doctors still believe the theory that "it is all in our heads," and that we just need psychiatric care.
Is there a specific site, chart, or literature, that I can pass on to the these 'unbelievers' that would be interesting enough for them to want to take the time to read? I gave some literature to my primary doctor and she said, "I don't think I need this from you," and gave it back to me.

Here is my community. I have a fibro research board and I always post the latest research info on fibromyalgia on there. What I've done in the past is print some of these research studies and taken them to my physician. Fortunately my physician doesn't have a huge ego and he appreciates it.

Good Luck !

You might want to checkinto the book by  authors Starlanyl, MD, /  Copeland  -----  the purple one.   There is also a later edition,  the green one.  Nothing like an over-educated female doctor with Fibromyalgia.   I don't know if that will convince the skeptics, but it might knock some of their arrogance down a few notches.   Besides it is a pretty good,
though somewhat technical book.  Good Luck.
