FM & Vaginal Bacterial Infection

Has anyone here experienced Vaginal Bacterial Infections with FM?  7 years ago I got my first bacterial infection, went to the doctor and was given antibiotics and was told that it was a sexually transmitted disease.  Well, I had just left my ex and of course he got a call and a good chewing out.  After I finished the antibiotics and went through another period, I got the infection again...No sex with anyone.  Well, I went back to the doctor, this went on and on.  I came home knowing I wasn't having sex with anyone and cleaned my whole house with bleach and washed all of my clothes in bleach.  Well, again it came back.  By this time my doctor things I'm not telling him the truth and is pretty irate at me and keeps telling me that this is a sexually transmitted disease.  I found another doctor who was fixing to retire, he said when he first started in practice there was no such thing as Gardenrellia (spelling?) He gave me acidoppholis suppositories, it cleared the symptoms but they come right back, this has been going on for at the minimum of 7 years.  I can pull my hair out at this point.  Then, 2 years later I am diagnosed with FM, of course I have all of the pain, brain fog, etc. that goes hand and hand with FM but now I'm also having symptoms of Hyperthyroidism.    Does anyone have any of these same symptoms or illnesses?

I'm a little skeptical of probiotics only because on the treatment that I'm doing (and it is working), they have been discussing probiotics and wondering whether probiotics, or bacteria that are believed to beneficially improve bacterial composition in the gut, may be palliating symptoms but not improving overall health.

If anyone wants a link to the article, feel free to zip me a PM.

Acidophilus, or a probiotic pill that contains other strains of good intestinal flora, will help, but it can't rid the body of yeast overgrowth alone.  Diet along with a probiotic/Acidophilus could allow the yeast to be starved out and the intestinal flora to start taking back over.  Some people who have it bad need anti-fungals whether it be a prescription or over-the-counter candida clear or something to help along the process.

I didn't mean to leave out that tall boy next to you in your pic.  A girls' dream or what.  Anyway I need to say sorry, I mentioned a husband in your relationship but now I see you didn't mention one.  If you have a walgreens or walmart look for a vitamin suppliment named ACIDOPHILUS. It is used to maintain intestinal flora.  Ask the pharmacist if it will help get rid of yeast overgrowth.  It doesn't contain any yeast, glutton and all the things that WE could be allergic to.  It is less than $4.00 a bottle 10mg. 100 count.  You take it 30 minutes before meals.  Watch out for online jobs by the way, if they ask you to ever pay out your money to work-DO NOT DO IT!   Look for good ones by word of trusted mouth...  Sharon

Google Candida; it could cause all of your symptoms.  And one of the main signs that you probably have a problem with candida is the recurring yeast infections along with your symptoms.  Many people that are diagnosed with FM and CFS actually have candida problems; Megatron had a good point.  It is basically an overgrowth of yeast in your gut that spreads and can cause a variety of symptoms; fatigue, fogginess, aches and pains, headaches, thrush, yeast infections, inability to concentrate, decreased memory, depression.  In bad cases a prescription anti-fungal (diflucan or nystatin...) is very helpful and maybe even required.  Good probiotics are available over the counter and also help re-establish the good bacteria in the intestinal tract and prevent the reoccurence of the yeast.  In addition diet is key to help kill the yeast and keep it gone; yeast thrive on sugars, high-carb foods, yeast/bread items so eliminate those.  Garlic is a natural anti-fungal, and there are also others along with products at health food stores to help rid the body of candida.  Sounds like the doctors so far are making money on managing your symptoms, so hopefully they will be willing to work on treating a potential cause of your symptoms.

Thanks for the compliments on my babies.  I wish I could go visit Splash more, he is like a little puppy dog, no rope needed, he just follows you around and he has never bucked in his life.
I think that Probiotics are the way, unfortunately I don't have the money right now.  I'm unemployed with no insurance.  I'm doing good to just buy my pain meds and muscle relaxers.  I am keeping my fingers crossed though, I managed to drag myself out of bed yesterday to a job interview.  It took a lot of pushing myself but I made it there and it is something that I am praying that I get.  They pay 100% of your medical.

Probiotics sounds like a good way to go, it could get expensive though. By the way I love horses and Splash is beautiful, so is Zowie your cat.  Hope that you get some issues cleared up.

I have to say that a journal is probably best for me, with the fibro fog I am doing good to remember where my bathroom is sometimes, my list of symptoms is 2 pages long, there is no way I could remember all of that.  Also, in just being here, I have seen symptoms that I have had but just learned to live with and didn't consider them as symptoms anymore.  Once I start reading someone's post I realize, Hey,I have the same thing.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is not a life long disease.  From the beginning of my pain it has never gone away. That was 5 years ago.  I just in the past year gave in to taking the Lortab and even with the lortab I am still in pain from the FM.  As far as everyone's advice, I thank you and have noticed on other boards that there are some things that have been posted as far as treatments that I haven't tried since the last time I've done a search.  I will keep searching as long as there is internet!!!!  Thanks to everyone for helping.

I agree with pretending to be happy and then seeing if your feelings follow....however i don't agree with having a symptom journal, i'm sure you won't forget how you feel, and i think maybe you should concentrate on getting better rather than focusing on being bad.

You will get better, i refuse to believe that Fibromyalgia is for life.

First off, you must get some probiotics, must be veg caps or powder for ease of absorption, and to start take 2 before each meal. Yes its not cheap, but it does work and give it a few months and you will feel the difference.
Whenever i get a little cheap about it and scrimp on probiotics, i get yeast infections almost continually, and a bad stomach and the fatigue and muscle pain gets a whole lot worse without probiotics. So try it and see what happens.

Look into diet, nutritional supplements and possibly homeopathy too...

As for pain relief, well i find hardly anything works, Tramadol does take the edge off, but only works on alternate weeks my digestive system suffers.. Only other thing that works for me is smoking 'herbs', and blobbing out in the sauna, the bowen technique is excellent but quite expensive.

Thanks Mx.  I am not taking antibiotics.  I stopped that after a year.  I think I had one dose about 2 years ago.  I know the effects of the antibiotics so I didn't want to keep going through that.  As far as the pain killers, I cannot handle the pain.  Even with the pain killers I am still in pain.  The only think the Lortab does for me is not make the pain quite as hair pulling.  I know they are bad for my liver so I only drink water and have only one cup of coffee a day, no sodas or anything.
I have not tried Probiotics YET but I am.

Sounds like maybe candida has a lot to do with your problems though probably isn't all thats going on with you....I still believe that doctors label people with fibromyalgia because they have given up trying to find an answer.

You might have more luck with an alternative health practitioner...

Are you taking probiotics daily? I know they are expensive but keep on at them and buy a good brand such as Biocare (vegetable capsules are more easily digestible)
Antibiotics will not be helping your body replenish itself with good bacteria, i know its hard but try and stay off the antibiotics and painkillers, they will really strip your body of good bacteria, and they will be making your kidneys, liver, stomach etc suffer.

I have had all the same symptoms as you, they also get very bad again when i take the **** with my diet (esp sugary and yeasty foods), and take painkillers.

Mx

P.S. Keep a symptom journal along with a daily journal.  Bring the symptom one to all your DR. Appts. Yes it would be worth it to spend a day at the charity hospital with all your past records and your research info & journal too (atleast 2 weeks worth) Sharon

Happy Birthday-and you can stay in bed if that is how you choose to celebrate it.  Are there any meds that you take and have taken since the symptoms started?  If there is you should google it for all the risks and side effects.  Or google your symtoms and thoroughly check every medical issue that comes up.  Has your husband been checked for yeast infections-he could be a carrier that doesn't get the symptoms.  Also everytime you start to get one you may not know it right away and then give it to your husband and he gives it back to you, a cycle that is hard to stop.  Wear cotton undies, no panty hose, no wet bathing suit, no hot tubs especially public, no tight pants and use Cheer Free laundry detergent(or other FREE DET...)Wash with dove sensitive soap and don't use a wash cloth.  Use your own soap and a different bar for the female area. Also wipe from front to back or just pat dry.  Find the purest T.P. that is on the market too. Again Happy Birthday, please get out of bed, put on some great music and dance around the house.  Watch a comedy and laugh until your sides hurt.  Go for a walk in a nature setting, go to a zoo, beach or a favorite place.  Be happy just for today. pretend to be happy until your feelings follow....  Sharon

Yes, I have.  I have tried everything.  I no longer drink sodas....I only drink water, I also have 2 cups of coffee a day but the water takes care of that, NO alcohol.  I also went to a total veggie juice diet...nothing helped and it comes back month after month.  It just seems that all of my problems started after my youngest son was born 13 years ago.  I had a bad pregnancy... I have gone to doctor after doctor after doctor.  Since I don't have insurance of course my symptoms have gone from bad to worse.  I cannot afford to go to the doctor and have zillions of tests run although when I did have insurance a year ago I was regularly tested.  I'm thinking I may just need a new doctor.  I have been thinking about just going to charity hospital but the wait is so long and the initial emergency room visit (which is how it works here) takes ALL day.  I just wish I could find someone who really wants to find the root problem instead of trying to treat all of my symptoms.  I'm tired of taking pain pills, muscle relaxers and what ever other kind of meds I'm given by my doctor.   Since February I have started running fever regularly. My fever normally runs 103 degrees and it lasts for a week.  My last episode with this was at the beginning  of May.  I should have gone to charity hospital at that point but I was so weak I couldn't move.  My mood has also changed.  My fuse is none and my temper is off of the chart.  I will "go off" in a second to the point that I cannot control myself.  In my head I feel lost... I know what I'm doing I just feel like I have no control.... I just remember a life of going jet skiing, wake boarding, boat riding, fishing, horse riding, cutting my grass, cleaning my house, etc. and I don't see that future for me anymore.   Today is my 40th birthday and I don't have the gumption to get out of bed and do ANYTHING.  Another symptom is when I wake up in the morning and get out of bed my heart races and I feel like I'm going to pass out.I think sometimes doctors hear all day how people feel and its always bad so they are really not interested in finding the root cause, it is just easy to treat the symptoms.    There is no doubt that I'm addicted to the pain killers.  I just want off of the pain killers.

Have you ever tried a yeat free diet ot glutton free diet?  You may be allergic to wheat and it could be causing your infections plus other symptoms.  Look that up to find detailed info.  Good Luck and hope you feel better. sharon

Yikes.........I'm sorry that you have to go thru so many times of infection.  Do you know if your infection was cause by yeast overgrowth? which can be passed on from one person to another, and vice versa.  If you google 'yeast infection'.....you will find out it is not necessarily sexually transimitted.

Hugs.
