Thanks both of you.
Blue, I'll check out the info you've given. It will be hard to keep a journal with my wrists but I'll def try. I'll also ask my doc again about lymes and this new poss.
Thanks again,
Liz
What you describes sounds just like the area of the 2nd branch of VIICN. I've had problems with that for several years now. If you haven't had a head injury or viral infection that damaged that nerve then you more likely have autonomic dysfunction. It is the part of the nervous sytem that does all our non-conscious functions. Your pattern doesn't sound much like a genetic caused disorder. We hope I'm right. That leaves only a few other possibilities. Going to long with to little oxygen (you'd probably remember that). Neurotoxic chemical exposure. Or Dietary chemical sensitivity.
Chemical exposure would most likely be long term low level exposure, like from work, but may be a breif exposure at a higher level. Dietary chemical sensitivity would most likely be a life long thing that gradually becomes more and more symptomatic. The root cause for me is sulfur sensitivity. My body doesn't digest it properly so bacteria move in to gobble it up in my guts. Unfortunatley their by-product is sulfuric acid.
Breif exposure tend to reverse fairly quickly once you remove whats hurting you. Chronic exposures tend to heal as slowly as they worsened, sometimes only partially. The most important thing you can do is find out what's causing the nerve damage. If there are no new meds and no physical injury then it's time to take a very careful look at your chemical environment over your lifetime. If you find nothing obvious there then it's time to do and exclusion diet and find out what foods hurt you. But keep looking at chemical environment anyway. It's those little minor details that give us the best clues.
I've given you some facts to check, some subjects to reasearch, and some things to look at. It's all complicated stuff so be prepared for a learning curve. You should also look at other areas of your health. How your weight balances. Digestive function. Postural tendancies. Kidney behaviour. Skin conditions. Somewhere in there are the clues to pin down just what's going on. I've been keeping a daily log that i change periodically to keep track of the most useful symptoms. I hope I've helped more than confused.
I have just what you are describing, so my Neurologist got an MRI done of my head neck and spine.
I have three pinched nerves in my neck.
He said the best treatment is massage. He also prescribed pain killers.
AT FIRST-
I got a different opinion from the dr. treating me for Lymes, he said it was from the toxins in my body. IMO. This may exasperate the symptoms but not cause such severe facial pain.
I don't get the nerve pain, but I do get some muscle spasms in my face - cheekbone, jaw and sometimes around the eyes. I do notice that I do sometimes grind my teeth, though, especially when I'm having a bad pain day (or days - or weeks - LOL) - so I was thinking that could very well be the cause of the spasms. So not 100% sure it's CAUSED by the fibro or, at least in my case, as a RESULT of the fibro pain.
However, I do also get muscle spasms in other areas of my body, too, that ARE definitely from the fibro, so I suppose it could be that the facial ones are also.
It's really hard to tell - I just never know what my stupid body is goign to do next - lol.
