Fibro Flares?

I'm not yet dx'd with anything.  I'm curious what a "fibro flare" is and how long it lasts?  Also can one go into remission from Fibro and then get it again?  Or is this what a flare would be?   I had symptoms about 2 years ago that lasted for several months.  Gradually they went away.  Now two years later I've had another flare of almost exact symptoms.  Could fibro act like this?  I've been worked up for MS and everything is normal.  Also being worked up now for lyme.  However I thought lyme and fibro were more on an ongoing conditons without "breaks".  Any ideas or comments would be appreciated!
  Thanks!

When referring to flares, some people have different interpretations. My understanding is a flare is a general increase in pain and symptoms (new) often times traveling to another part of the body. It's that out of control feeling, when nothing you do seems to help.

There can be remission periods when we feel fairly normal. I say fairly, because I never have had a time when my symptoms have gone away completely. There has never been a time I could stop medication or stop exercising. What I do and I believe most of us do is manage our pain and treat symptoms whenever possible. We try to maintain control so that we can live our lives as normally as possible.

It is hard to say if what you have is fibro or something else. It does sound unusual for it to go away and not return for some time. FMS/MPS are chronic conditions, so it is hard to fit that into your description but your doctor could be right, I just don't know.

Hi;
   I've only been diagnosed for about a year and a half, with fibro and CFS. My body never stops hurting. I have pain 24/7, when I have a flare, I have excruciating pain. I can barely get to the bathroom and then back to bed. Regardless of how I layor sit or stand, I am in excruciating pain. I am just now feeling a little better after having been in a really bad flare for several months. I had gotten to the point that I was about to give up, and my doctor changed my meds.

  I've read that some doctors feel that fibro is not progressive, but both of my doctors do think that it is progressive. and my internist tells me that he can see that my symtoms have gotten worse. All I can do is keep trying to find what works for me. Right now, my meds seem to be working.

gentle hugs
