The nerve of these quacks!!!! I didn't choose to have Fibro. I would choose to have my life back. The pain I feel certainly is NOT in my mind. This illness has affected my entire life. I can no longer work or enjoy things I use too. How dare these quack doctors sitting on their high horses making such widespread comments as though it was the GOSPEL. It certainly isn't true for the members here. Many of us have the same suffering going on and the @#@$%% nerve of this doctor. Yeah you might think it's just you until you get on the web and do your homework and then begin to realize how many people are suffering in pain with very little help. Many of us with headaches, shoulder, back, arm, hand pain. IBS, Restless Leg, and so on. Boy am I mad. Thanks PGal for the information.

Feel Good and Sweet Hugs!!!

"I am further suggesting that these people choose to be patients because they have exhausted their wherewithal to cope."

Akkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!  If I didn't know better, I would think that some serious 'hands in pockets to conceal the truth' have occurred in this matter.  Something isn't right here (ie. Dr. Wolfe and his complete reversal of thought.)

I'm glad to see that so many people commented that they didn't choose to become ill, nor that this is caused by a depressive disorder.  If you happen to read this story, please feel free to give an 'approval' to my comment about the true nature of FMS.  I want to beat out the comment left by the individual who feels it is due to depression.

Hi ! It is outrageous, isn't it ? I post these things (that are sent to me via a non-profit organization) so that everyone here will know what we are facing when it comes to getting a diagnosis, treatment and support from our physicians. Many people here, especially the newly diagnosed members, are going to need to know what is happening and the disbelief that they may run into with this diagnosis.

In order to change things, we need to know what the problem is first. This article is one example of the problems that we may encounter that is going to prevent us from getting the best treatment possible.

Thank you Plateletgal for posting the link to that article. I am going to email the journalist and give him our story, let him come to medhelp, read the stories of the members here. Every time I read that this damn disease is a figment of my imagination, I see red!!

( below is an exerpt from the article)

That view is supported by Dr. Nortin Hadler, a rheumatologist and professor at the University of North Carolina. Writing in the Journal of Rheumatology, Hadler states bluntly that fibromyalgia is all in the mind.

"I am suggesting that chronic persistent pain is an ideation, a somatization if you will, that some are inclined toward as a response to living life under a pall, and not vice versa," he writes. "I am further suggesting that these people choose to be patients because they have exhausted their wherewithal to cope

How dare this person, who actually claims to be a doctor, sit on his high horse and try to convince the world that we are all a bunch of brainless, mindless people who can not cope with life. And what makes his words so sad is, the people reading them will believe them. This is why we have to fight everyday to be treated with respect and dignity. Words such as those that spewed so freely from these doctors could put our treatment back 10 years.

I'm going to print that article and give it to my Rheumy today. I want to see what he thinks about these two doctors.

gentle hugs
Angel
