Im 24 years old, was just diagnosed with fibro and have had pain since i was 10. So yes, this can be fibro even though you are young. i would see a nuerologist first who would refer you to a rheumatologist who specializes in what youre dealing with.
My daughter is having some back pain, lightheadedness and fatigue. At first I thought it might be a UTI,but then silly me googled it! It pulled up fibromyalgia even though I put in she is a child. She has had back pain for over a year and the dr said it was growing pains and gave us mobic as needed. I was diagnosed with fibro about 2 years ago and now I'm scared that my baby girl that is only 11 may have to suffer with this too! I really hope it's something else
thank you so much for your help, makes me feel better, and I'll try not to warry and talk to my mam about things.
There is no specific age when fibro can set in - although it is more rarely seen in younger people, it is definitely possible to be diagnosed with it at an early age.
The tough part is, even doctors who are very well versed in fibro and its treatment can sometimes be relcutant to "diagnose" it in a younger patient. Many times they tend to chock up their symptoms to "growing pains" and therefore, a younger patient can go for many more years without proper treatment simply because they ARE young. So it's even more important that, if you are not feeling well, that you be persistent with your doctor to try and determine the exact cause/s of your ailments, whether they be from fibro or not. Remember, you know your body best and you know how you are feeling - so be completely honest with your doc about symptoms, etc.
I hope you feel better soon!
welcome giggly! It is not proven it is genetically passed on. There is research out there on that subject but the results so far are not conclusive.
Please do not worry about what worrying is not going to change. Not one person should worry about what might be.
You may have growing pains in the height of puberty.
I was a knuckle cracker and got the same warnings from people. I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Lymes disease but my hands are not my major complaint. I'm 59 and despite the illness I deal with, my body is holding up.
Keep yourself strong. Use your Phys. Ed. Class as a way to be active. Stay away from sugar as much as you can. Try to avoid processed foods. This is a basic rule we all should follow.
I have a pain in my ribs my Mom, Aunt and Son have. My Mom and I share high blood pressure. She has bad arthritis I don't.
Genetics are random.
