IDIOPATHIC INTERCRANIAL PRESSURE / FIBROMYALGIA

Hello Doctor,
My wife was getting blurred visions and later was found to have swellings to her optic nerves. Further diagnosis proved that she had idiopathic intercranial pressure. She has drained CSF twice. But continues to have optic pressure/pain and headaches accompanied by boady, bach and neck pains. In 2002 she was also diagnosed with a mild disc degenaration in the lower back area.
Presently some areas in her body when pressed feels like to be clotted, She was recently requested by a neurosurgeon to continue taking DIAMOX 250mg 3 times daily for THREE months. Since then she has been getting many side effects such as headaches, face tingling, hands feeling lifeless etc.
Question :
Is it normal for a doctor to recommend such a dosage of Diamox without any other supplementary medicine/vitamins?
Looking at her diagnosis of Intercranial pressure vs her symptoms, could she be having Fibromyalgia?

Appreciate your input and advice

Thks & Best Rgds

Hi Desmon ,

Diagnosis of Fibromyalgia involves careful examination and a detailed history from patient .Wide spread body pain is manifested in many conditions like neck pain syndrome, low back pain, local tendonitis, trauma-related pain syndromes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoarthritis of the knee or hand, and other painful disorders. These patients have some symptoms that mimic fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread pain in all four quadrants of their body for a minimum of three months and at least 11 of the 18 specified tender points -9 pairs  on either side of the body along with the experience of chronic widespread pain .The tender points lie in front neck area ,back of the neck ,back shoulder area, shoulder blade area ,elbow area , upper outer quadrant of the buttocks , rear hip and Knee . Associated symptoms of Fibromyalgia include fatigue ,morning stiffness , sleep disorder , menstrual cramping along with numbness and tingling , dizziness , skin and light sensitivities. Please consult a rheumatologist and physician for the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia .
Diamox  may cause dizziness , lightheadedness , muscle cramps , weakness , numbness and a lot of other side effects . The side effects are common to a lot of people . Please consult your neurosurgeon and let him know about the symptoms . He may reduce the drug dosage or change the drug . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
