I'm getting the 18 point tenderness test, is it really gonna hurt ?

I'm getting the 18 point tenderness test tomorrow and I'm nervous, of course. I'm a 31 yr old female and have been dealing with chronic pain and conditions since i was about 13 yrs old. I've ALWAYS had certain parts of my body that hurt to the touch! i have TMJ, IBS, MPS (maybe), asthma, GERD (acid reflux), hiatal hernia, chronic tension - migraines, and chronic back, head, neck, shoulder, face, hand, hip, and leg pain. I just wanted to know what to expect from this test (if anything) and is it really gonna hurt?

Thank you helena and SIMMY! I've just been going through an awful lot of tests and procedures and i basically needed to know whether or not to be prepared for some good ol' fashioned hurtin' (as usual) or if it wasn't gonna be anything i haven't already been through, which is basically what it sounds like, lol. thanks so much!

hi how   oh bless you poor thing , you don,t do anything they just touch parts of your body like helena said and thats it ,you don,t strip off or anything lol they might take a blood test aswell to rule out other things ,some of the tender spots they will touch lightly as most of the time thats all it takes to get a little yelp out of you ,lol anyway good luck.

Hello, no, don't worry, all this test is, is your Dr pressing quite hard and maybe also moving the tissue around at the same time, in certain spots, in order to confirm his diagnosis. If you press your middle finger, on a part of your body, like say across shoulder, or above hips, on both sides---this is how it will feel, maybe a bit like a bruise, the next day, but really, not too painful, at all, and if it helps with diagnosis, it's worth it, Don't be awake all night worrying, not that you probably sleep a lot anyway!! Good Luck, honestly, really not that bad:)
