Medication??

Hey i'v got an appointment with my consultant on the 16th and was wondering what's worked for you?  I was diagnosed about 6 months ago but have been trying different treatments and meds for the last 5 years...  My worst symptoms are chronic cluster/migraine headaches, general muscle pain particularly my clave muscles and my neck, waking up just as tired or more tired that when I woke up, concentration problems and not being able to think or speak properly and I also have a constant thirst (I can easily drink 10-12 litres of water/juice a day)
So far I have tryed;
co-codamol 30-500 , diclofenac, ibuprofen, paracetamol, and am using at the moment

Tamadol 200sr 2times a day, Tramadol 50mg upto 4times a day, Paracetamol and ibuprofen as required, Gabapentin 1200mg 3 times a day, duloxitine 60mg daily, Maxalt® upto 3 times a week, Mebeverine 3times a day.

I have been on this mix of meds for about 3-4 months now and things have improved a little but I am really scared im loosing my mind because I cant think properly and because I have daily headaches and always feel tired it is affecting my work (I have already taken a desk job to accommodate my health)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and also has anyone tried oxygen for their headaches iv heard that it can help? and has anyone found a better triptan then Maxalt?

Thanks

Dustybrown is correct doctors are opposed to prescribing thyroid meds however we as FM patients must take a more active role in our FM.  Blood tests are a standard thing. They don't always mean the same thing for dusty as they do for me. Thyroid SYMPTOMS  are the key, if you have them talk to your doctor.  I cannot stress enough the tie between FM and thyroid. There are studies that suggest if women were taking thyroid medication they would have less than half of the illnesses we have. That and iodine which should be checked out prior to taking.

And this is my humble opinion only and my personal expereince but this was prescribed by a doctor in my area who healed his wife, she suffered with FM.  He has since retired but is highly respected in my area.  I think I am getting known as a trouble maker on this site and for that I am sorry but this worked for me and I can't stand the thought of anyone suffering like I did.  I am NOT a doctor just have 15 years of personal experience and experience with 3 excellent doctors.

Hi Dusty, I hope you are well.  Good luck Cascarb!

Many doctors are opposed to prescribing thyroid medications unless your thyroid is abnormal, although there are a small number out there who are willing to treat. I would suspect that Cascarb would probably be hard pressed to find any in his country however. Concerned621 did bring up a good option though- Topamax is an anti-seizure medication in the same family as Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Lyrica, although it is much more powerful. I actually take it myself and find it to be helpful for headaches and migraines. I posted something about a month ago on the topic I think I will bump up, so everyone can read about it. Have a look at it. Let me know if you have any questions. I am going to look for it now.

Ask your doctor about Topamax. I had daily headaches for years and this is the only thing that has helped.  What most likely is happening is your pain is causing the headaches but the pills or some of the pills your taking are causing "rebound headaches" a lot of pain medications do that.  I didn't know that for years and I was suffering.  Diclofenac comes in a topical form, if that helps see if the doctor will give it to you that way.  You get less than 1% of the toxins in your system so less side affects from it.
I have fibromyalgia one of the worst cases my doctor and rheumatologist have seen and I've had 7 surgeries on my spine.  I take oxycontin 40mg per day, percocet for breakthrough pain, topamx for migraines, edpidrin for onset of a headache, trazadone for sleep, and if you aren't taking a thyroid medication ask the doctor to prescribe a low dose thyroid medication.  I take Levoxyl.  I have for years. My thyroid tests come back normal however I have all the symptoms of under active thyroid. I went to a doctor years ago, he's since retired.  He prescribe this Levoxyl for me. It helps with my fm pain like I can't tell you.  So look in to that.  Some times you really have to do your research and discuss it intelligently with your doctor.  They aren't going to randomly prescribe medication for you so know what you are talking about. Look up the link between fibromyalgia and thyroid.  I've never heard of any of the other medication you take so I can't comment.  Also, as far as the headaches foods, what you drink can bring on headaches.  Nuts, cheese, dairy all bring headaches on for me.  I too drink a ton of water, that's really good but make sure there isn't anything going on with your blood sugar.  Good luck.
