New Fibro Med

I was watching Mad Money last night and learned that a new drug for fibro called Savella has been approved and should be available by March.  It's an SSRI type of med and (oh happy day!!!) weight gain was not listed as a side effect.

I'm new to this, so I'm not sure what I'm doing.  Thanks for the information on the new med. coming out for Fibro.  I stay in pain and wish something would work.  I've done a lot of research on this. Serotonin and Nor-- seems to be the answer.

Wise words Breeze. I know that we are suffering horribly, but one must always use caution when mixing medications. Our doctors mean well, but we know our bodies better than anyone. Nothing is worth risking severe side effects or overdoses.

For anyone who is currently mixing different antidepressants, or considering this, please familiarize yourself with a condition called 'Serotonin Syndrome'.  

Of course, we all know that physicians have our best interest at heart when prescribing medications, but we must be aware of potential side-effects...because it's going into our bodies.

I have Bipolar Disorder also, so any antidepressants taken can swing me right back into mania... I wish I could have one or the other. There are so many meds out there I wish I could take. I could possible be able to take this one with the low dosage one I'm on now.

I don't think it will be necessarily cheaper then others right off the bat. Usually brand new meds do not have the generics out, so they are really expensive.

I've been waiting for my narcolepsy medicine; Provigil to release their patient, or whatever. Most of the time it take 2 -3 years, but Provigil has been out since 99, with no one else scoping up the generic type. I can't afford 200 bucks a month on on pill...

Is it not just a cheaper brand of cymbalta which i heard was not that effective on everyone.

lyrica was ment to be the wonder drug and for me it was for a while but they all wear off in the end even my 100 fentanal patches i still feel alot of pain and the requip that is ment to be another great thing agonist dopamine for fibro but i felt no help with it.

but we can hope and be happy they are trying to find something to help us.

Does anyone know if this new drug can be taken with Lyrica.  I did take Cymbalta with my 400 mgs. of lyrica...it wasn't for me made me blah...didn't go to #2 for 2 weeks, didn't care about anything...didn't laugh, didn't joke...just blah..took my spirit.  So someone said its in the lines of Cymbalta....hmmm

please be careful whentaking any meds.

I have had symptoms notlisted on warning lists and many of my doctors wave away my declarations in favor of what the drug companies put out.

That's ok dai3symae :-)  The medication should also work for depression much as Cymbalta does.  There is a concern of serotonin syndrome when too many drugs like this are taken together.  Sometimes even the best intended physician will prescribe things that don't mix well.  You can always talk about your meds. with the pharmacist.  I find they know a lot in that area too.

Thanks for the correction....I like to say it was a typo, but I got AD types confused.

I'm wondering if Savella will also work for mild to moderate depression.  It's always a balancing act to control symptoms without becoming overmedicated.

We had heard that it was on the way to being approved.  It's actually an SNRI (serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) along the lines with Cymbalta, but hopefully it will be more affordable.  It did have a good success rate in the studies and maybe it will be something else that can provide relief from pain.
