I'm sorry to hear about your job loss. That's a tough thing to deal with at any time, but I think especially when you're already not feeling well physically.
There is no age restriction/magic age to be able to apply for disability. While it might be true that being approved for disability could be a bit harder for a younger person, it can and does happen. I, myself, was in my 30's when I applied and got approved.
One thing to remember if you decide to apply for disability is that it is not usually a quick process and actually can take a couple of years. Also remember that the majority of people who apply (especially those that apply on their own without the aid of a lawyer or legal group that specializes in disability cases) get denied the first, sometimes second and even sometimes third time they apply. So it's very important to try to not get discouraged with the process.
Some things that could help with the disability process -- get as much paper back-up as you can to your diagnoses/es, treatments, doctor ivisits, tests, etc., as you can. One of the most helpful things, if you can get it, would be a letter from your doctor stating that he/she feels that you are unable to work anymore because of your conditions. Don't leave ANY of your medical problems/conditions out on the application - you don't need to apply based JUST of fibro.
there are many legal groups out there that do specialize in disability claim cases and they can be extremely helpful. Most of them typically not only help with the paperwork, but they, themselves also deal with all the communications with Social Security so that you don't have to do it. Some, like the one that I used, do not require any money upfront. If and when you win your case, they will take a portion of your backpay as their fee - and if you don't get approved, you don't owe them anything. While ANY legal help is not cheap, I felt that the amount they deducted from my back pay was well worth them helping me get my case approved.
I wish you the best of luck!
Well as of the 9th of this month my boss is letting me go saying he cant rely on me and I guess hes right with the never ending headaches and pain I wont be able to keep a job and I'm to young to apply for a disability so at this point not sure what to do bummed for now
Have you seen a rheumatologist? If you haven't, I would suggest that you try to get in to see one. They are typically the types of doctors that are most knowledgeable and helpful in treating fibro.
It's very common for fibro patients to have sleeping problems and many need a sleep aid - either over the counter or prescription - to help in that. I, personally, take Ambien - some nights it works wonders and other nights it's like I've taken a tic tac. It's a vicious circle with the sleep and fibro - we can't sleep because we're hurting and we hurt more because we're not getting enough or adequate sleep.
What meds are you currently taking? There are several newer meds out that are made to treat fibro.
While it is true that you will have good days and bad days with fibro, it doesn't sound like your current doctor is taking your pain and other symptoms very seriously.
Some non-medicinal things that SOMETIMES help take the edge off my fibro pain are warm showers (not too hot - I find that extremes of temp in either direction make me hurt more), a heating pad, TRYING to relax in bed with soft music (sometimes helps me relax enough until my pain meds can kick in).
I hope some of this helps.
