Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) for central sensitzation

I have just ordered a beginning order of Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) from the only source that can sell it to US residents. I have been reading many scholarly articles on the benefits of PEA for chronic pain folks, like me, and, when the PEAPure capsules arrive, I will take the 400 mg capsules 3 times a day. I hope that I can see if it will help me. I don't know if anyone else has taken the step to order the capsules. They are about $1 a capsule, so not cheap, but if it helps, it's worth it to me. Essentially, no side-effects have been reported, and it's a natural "medical food."
Has anyone have any thoughts about it? I clearly have central sensitization and see a chronic pain therapist weekly. I will not take Lyrica, Cymbalta, etc, due the side-effect profile.
Of course, I will be happy to post how it affects me, once I receive the capsules and take it for a month. Thanks very much for reading my post. Best wishes out there.

Just posted a comment but will repeat for you. I have had huge success with Magnesium/zinc supplements.   Seems many people are short of Magnesium which relaxes muscles among other good stuff.   Also try Melatonin before bed to relax for sleep.   I buy this at Sam's club but it would be available at health stores.    CALM is a combination of Magnesium/calcium and is also available in Health stores.    It relaxes muscles and takes out the pain quite quickly when they spasm.    Also with calf leg spasm I find pressing the heel down as hard as possible or getting onto a cold floor works.  Very rarely get this now since I take Magnesium/zinc supplements.  Hope this helps

thank you for your suggestions, I will try them and see how it goes. Anything I can try I will. Sometimes my muscles cramp so badly I feel like I am having seizures for something, it is preventing me from going to work, sleep and a normal life. I get afraid to do any activities for fear they will trigger the spasms.
once again, appreciate your insight!

Hey cheri

You may do a trial of MSM powder, 1/4 teaspoon x 2 daliy with juice-
it tastes aweful at first- and increase to 1/2 teaspoon x 2 daliy within 2 weeks.
It supplies the body with organic sulfur, one of the few oxygen transporters to the cells. (There are many more benefits-just do a search)
You may also look into Boswellia seratta extract, as it is one of the best anti-inflammatory agents available. AOR has a nano-available form
and if taken with fats its efficiency gets boosted by 700%!!!
It is ideal to fight inflammatory processes, specially the ones from TNFa
(tumor necrosis alpha type of inflammatory chemicals)
Improvement may be expereinced gradulally within a few weeks.
These supplements are not designed as most drugs to work fast.

Lastly, you may go to a thread I started a while back -search here under:
"IWILLDOTHIS"- and you'll find many more suggestions

Hope this helps.
Cheers.

I am trying to find somewhere to order this. I found a company Tocris that has it available and they ship through a co. in mpls, however they are 50mg and the original PeaPure is 400mg..the recommended dose is 400mg 3times a day. At 50mg each that is a lot of pills.plus very costly. we need to find some options to getting this for my fibromyalgia.
appreciate any help anyone can offer

OK, magster123, this was not very easy, but I did find some decent research (a review article) that goes beyond murine studies, seller supplied data and anecdotal evidence.
It's titled: "New Targets in Pain, Non-Neuronal Cells, and the Role of Palmitoylethanolamide"    ---The Open Pain Journal, 2012, 5, 12-23---

Your approach seems very reasonable and safe.
It is nice of you to offer to post your results.

I read some of your posts in order to discern details in regards to your health condition(s) and symptoms, so I could have a better understanding.

Which led me to the following analysis (I'm unsure if it is still current).

A likely scenario is that due to the fact that in adrenal fatigue,
the adrenals down-regulate thyroid function (secondary hypothyroidism)
for adrenal recovery, possibly by converting T4 to reverse T3, thus your low fT3/rT3 ratio (see below). (Reverse T3 originates only from T4).
By tweaking your compounded thyroid dose , if this is indeed the case, it not going to help much, if you do the math and take into account the fact that a good precentage of the remaining T3 is bound by proteins in the serum. Did you BTW find a reputable compounding pharmacy?
(Yes, it has been some time since then, however these complex issues, tend to linger around for long, till they get resolved or properly regulated.)

So a couple things can be done.
1. A trial of Cytomel which is only T3, while the adrenals are recovering, with constant monitoring and dose tweaking.
Eventually the body will remove the  excess rT3

2. The fT3/rT3 ratio is probably the most reliable marker for low cellular thyroid function. Yours is/was very low at 12.67 if my math is right.
Look for a ratio of over 20 for healthy thyroid function. (divide Free T3 by reverse T3, but make sure you are in the same unit measurement for both.)

Your adrenals are probably dysregulated, the reason for low fT3/rT3 ratio.  One of the  causes is high cortisol.
Paradoxically low cortisol (which is the next phase after unresolved chronic high cortisol-could be up to years, before the body cannot sustain the elevated cortisol production, resulting in diminished cortisol production!) is another cause for a low fT3/rT3 ratio.
This would be likely more consistent with your situation.
I don't know any particulars in your case, so I'm addressing different possibilities.
So again, while treating the adrenals, a trial of Cytomel as above, using
the fT3/rT3 ratio AND symptom changes, for dosing purposes, might be
a more precise but obviously also more complicated  way to regulate thyroid function.

The aforementioned references and comments on your adrenal and thyroid issues are from another post, but modified to reflect your own
details.

It seems that there's a higher prevelance of adrenal fatigue in our society.

Please let me know if you have any questions & what is your current status with adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism.

Wishing you well.
