Platelet count is low

Not sure if this is the right category...but my daughter found out her platelet count is 40,000 and bruises very easily.  She is only 12 and I was wondering if Vitamin K will work for her?  Doc. said it could be because pre-menstrual causes your platelets to go wacky.  HELP!  I'm scheduled for an appointment with a Pediatric Hematologist but didn't know how to help her today?  Thanks!

I've run low platelets, before I would definetly make sure you see a pediatric hematologist, I've had mine run in the low 90's for no apparent reason, heavy periods and easy bruising, seems like i'm always anemic and my iron is always messed up....not sure why...Keep us updated.

I'm not a doctor.....just to let you know that

Just read your post. I think vitamin K is mostly given to patients' with coagulation problems and I've never heard of giving it to someone with a lot platelet count and especially if your daughter hasn't been diagnosed yet. I would call her physician and speak with her or her about this. I am happy to hear that the doctor is referring your daughter to a Pediatric Hematologist.
