Seroprevalence of parvovirus B19 in fibromyalgia syndrome – Source: Clinical Rheumatology, Dec 5, 2008

A study you guys may be interested. The results of the study concluded that Parvovirus B19 IgG seropositivity was found to be significantly higher in patients with FS. Parvovirus B19 infection might have a role in the etiopathogenesis of FS or might act as a triggering factor.

Here we go again: PATHOGENS

Hi ! Just like pretty much any other treatment, there are risks with the Marshall Protocol and other "pathogen killing" treatments. The "herxing" symptoms from these treatments can add stress on your organs. So that is why if you choose to do one of these treatments, you need to work with your physician. There are things you can do to help manage your herxing symptoms.

I know we don't have lyme disease, however this is the SAME treatment that lyme patients are on. We may not have the lyme bacteria, but we have other pathogens and two-thirds of CFS and fibromyalgia patients test positive for L-form bacteria (mycoplasma). source: http://www.immed.org/illness/fatigue_illness_research.html

Definition of "herxing":

The Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction (referred to as "Herx" often) is believed to be a reaction caused by organisms (bacteria) dying off and releasing toxins into the body faster than the body may comfortably handle it.

One thing about the Marshall Protocol... Dr. Marshall has some very controversial ideas on vitamin D. I must say that I agree with some of that research. I believe that a low vitamin D level is the RESULT of an illness and not the cause. Perhaps not in every case, of course, but in the majority of cases... yes. I remember once a woman in Florida who was recovering from mono. She posted here in MedHelp about having a low vitamin D (after her mono diagnosis). She was confused because she lived in sunny Florida, had a suntan and didn't avoid foods with vitamin D in them. Months later, she posted again to let me know that she was making progress.. and her vitamin D level was back to normal.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I originally was on the Marshall Protocol and then switched to Dr. David Jernigan's protocl (which uses natural formulas). I must say that I was quite impressed with Jernigans'..... I have herxing symptoms with his formulas. And he has formulas that address viruses and yeast. So I'm sticking with his treatment. IMO...both of these treatments are restoring my health. The only frustrating thing about these treatments is that they take so long (especially for CFS patients) and they can make you feel worse due to the herxing.  I thank God though for this treatment. This treatment option was a little frightening to me at first but what is even MORE frightening is thinking where I would be in 10 years... had I not chosen to wipe out this infection that I have. These mycoplasmas multiply and invade into our cells and tissues.

Hi You and I have spoken about many of these viral and bacterial pathogens and they all have one thing in common, tell me if you see the same thing.
They all affect the immune system which predisposes us to FM/CFS  and the neurological ramifications of such.

Then we are open to repeatedly getting sick with other dibilitating illnesses such as RA, Thyroid disease and receptive to other pathogens and Fibromyalgia/CFS.

So its, pathogen, immune system, FM/CFS, muscle toxicity, neurological dysfunction, myriad of symptoms.

For myself, I have a holiday and my immune system goes kablooee (medical term lol) and I am not only run down but feverish, fluish, tired, achy for at least a month.  My neurological system is haywire. I liken the neuro system to be like our electrical system, visually it works.  My muscles react to my throwing a ball with long lasting severe pain (I know right now I am living it). I have another headache, this one for 12 days so far from throwing the ball. Trigger point to trigger point.

Thats it.  The above is how I see the chain of events.  How do you see it?

One of the first doctors that I visited at age 18 told me that I was exposed to the parvo virus, somehow he could tell from my blood tests. But they didn't make a big deal of it. I will def check into this information. Thanks for sharing!!!!

Very interesting.  So, this could be something we happened to come in contact with previously, yet unlike someone who was healthier, we carried it on.  Like the chicken pox...we always have the virus, but we don't always have the symptoms.  I'm going to be really interested in how far this research goes.

Thanks so much for sharing this.
