Sleep

I have found if I don't sleep well . I have a flare up .Then when I flare up . I don't sleep do to pain. ( catch 22). After about 3 days of this . I can no longer walk or move with out full blown pain . It is effecting about 80% of my body . Tendons burn muscles cramp and hurt. I've been on oxycodone for 2 years . 40 mlg. a day but, now i'm used to them . I've had spine damage and told i would be on them for life. The pain pills help my back . But not much good for fFibro .Should I ween down on pain meds. so they work again . I used to take them like the scrip says 10 mlg every 6 hour . But now I'm taking 15 mlg. at a time some times. and not taking them in the night so i never go over the 40 mlg. This seems to be a temporary fix . I was told I would be on something for life ! If i stay a this low of dose. Will it shorten my life exp. Thanx Bill

Found this article. i use to wake like 4 times a night only to feel like ahhh u know the next day. i was put on Amitriptyline and i can sleep all night now or most all anyways. But for the pains and all of that stuff the only thing thats worked for me is the new drug called Savella (milnacipran) i can say alot of the pains like back pain, chest pain, stiff joints are pretty much gone for me good luck and heres the info on sleep medication...

In a study of 70 fibromyalgia patients that evaluated the efficacy of 50 mg of Amitriptyline, patients receiving the Amitriptyline had significantly improved quality of sleep, morning stiffness, pain analog and global assessment. Interestingly, tender point score did not improve. 40

Common side effects of Amitriptyline may include morning sedation, dry mouth, confusion and urinary retention. Fibromyalgia patients seem especially sensitive to these side effects. Therefore, the dose should be individualized and generally begun at the lowest possible dose (such as 5 to 10 mg) at nighttime. Taking the drug 1 to 2 hours prior to sleep can minimize difficulties with morning sedation or "hangover". If there is no response, the dose can increase after 2 to 3 weeks.
