Sodium Oxybate may be on the horizon for FMS treatment

FYI, I use sodium oxybate for narcolepsy.  It makes for a good night sleep, but I still do not feel rested in the am.  It did stop the cataplexy. Sodium Oxy is also called "date rape" drug.

Thanks for infomation on sodium oxybate,does your doctor perscribe it? I take klonopin and it sems to help. Do you have to be carful taking oxy?

Klonopin gives me a hang over.  My sleep medicine doctor prescribes it and it is delivered through fed ex.  It comes from a speciality pharmacy SDS/ Jazz pharmaceuticals.  You take the first dose right when you get into bed.  You take another dose 2 1/2 - 4 hours later.  It tells you to set an alarm, but I never have to.  It is excreted mainly through your lungs as you breath.  It isn't a narcotic.  The only problem would be, you really sleep and might not hear storms, alarms, etc.  (There is only about an hour of the total 4 that I think is difficult to wake me) PM me if there are other questions.  I know when I first started it, I woke up and felt better than I had in over 10 years, but that lasted only about 2 weeks.  Now, I don't feel rested in the morning, but it helps the cataplexy I have with Narcolepsy and I sleep solid.  (It still don't get stage 4 sleep and minimal REM during night.)   Karen
