Very Fatigue after Working out ... For Days.. I am 23 years old

Hello,

I am concern that i get very very fatigue after running 2 or 3 miles and the fatigue may last any where between 24 - 48 hours.

My symptoms include: headaches, not feeling well, fatigue, pain.

I am concern, what I should do ?

I told my doc about this, and he says its normal.

I do not think I buy that answer.

What may cause this problem ?

P.S. I also notice that if I run to extreme, then the fatigue comes in.

But, if I run normal pace , the fatigue may or may not come.

I do not know.

Ben

I totally get what you're saying.
I used to run 1 mile with my sister all the time! I loooved runnung. But I noticed that I started gradually getting fatigued after i'd go to the gym and running a mile. My sister would have more energy (which is the norm after a work out) and I would feel like I needed to lie down...for the rest of the weekend. It got so bad that one day after I finished a mile, I was still on the track and was ready to push myself to do more, because my body was used to it...until I got really bad pains in my abdominal area and  felt like throwing up...so instead of running the track- i ran to the bathroom, sat on the toilet, had massive diahrreah, felt like vomiting, tried drinking water to no avail and I had a crazy fever and was sweating like a crazy woman. (It looked like I just got out of a pool, and I wasen't like this prior to my run)....i couldn't move, felt like passing out, and took all my clothes off because my fever was so bad. I finally waited 20 minutes in the stall, got well enough to walk to the car (even though i was still dizzy, and now fatigued). I almost called the hospital, but went to my family doctor instead. This was a year ago, & I have never been able to work out since. I try, but I get really sick and end up in bedrest for 3 days or more. It is not normal. I believe I have Myalgic encephalomyletis, ME/CFS- because with those diseases, you get sick upon physical exertion. It's called post exertional malaise. And this past year I have had all sorts of wonky things happen, which are also part of ME/CFS. I would say go to another doctor, but I've seen almost 5 now and they don't believe in CFS/ME because it is still controversial. Hopefully you'll have better luck. You could also be anemic? Or your electrolytes could be out of wack, there's lots of reasons you could be feeling sick after working out. You need to find out what's going on before it gets worse.
Good luck and get well soon.

I've never heard it from a guy before.  However, by the time I met them, they'd been sick a long time and wouldn't be topic of conversation any more.  I'll have to remember to ask around.  ...a new way to diagnosis cfs if your male - and your doctor insists it's HIV and you test negative.

Lympocyte isn't necessarily off as far as I know.  If it's common test, then mine isn't.  (With the immune abnormalities in CFS I may be missing something here.)  It's not unusual in CFS for some test of any kind to be off with no explanation, and for it not to be common in other CFS patients.  (How's that for a vague illness.)

Dysautonmoia can exist as a stand-alone illness or as part of CFS/FM.  Which dsyautonmia do you have, how were you diagnosed?  Do you have any dizziness?  It can produce some of the common CFS symptoms.  CFS is a superset of dyautonmia symptoms.  You're symptoms could be either one.  CFS doesn't normally get better with exercise and a good diet, so either you had a mildish case (I'm sure it didn't feel that way), and were lucky with the treatment or recovery at least for now.  Or you only have dysautomonia.  Or it's something else going on.  You may have had CFS with dyauto, and now only have the dysauto left.

The only symptom that doesn't fit is "unable to enjoy stuff".  If you can do things but don't feel enjoyment, then this is more likely to be depression.  It can cause most of the other symptoms, be very physical in it's appearance, and at least it's treatable!  You are at an age that it onsets if it's physical (and not from an emotional event).  It can co-exist with CFS (and result from it) and could be lingering. If you were unable to enjoy because you felt crummy, then that's natural of course.

Treatment for the dyauto is extremely good hydration, increased salt, and learning what the feeling is before it triggers and learning to stay under it (mostly my monitoring exercise).

At least it's not HIV.  I wonder if that's a common theme in what doctor's think with CFS patients who are guys?

you are correct, indeed I have abnormal blood report.

My lymphocyte % is between 48 - 56 % all the time. This indicates some type of infection.

Has many of you CFIDS patient, check your blood work, is % of lymph always off ?

I do not think I lack oxygen, yes I do have hard time breathing because of this CFIDS. My pulmologist says that I have Dysautonomia (Sp?)

She just told me to relax and pretend and tell myself that I can breath, thats it.

Due to CFIDS, I have following problem at age of 23.

fatigue,
muscle pain,
dry eyes,
crazy unknown pain,
low on vitamin D,
stomach problem,
not in the mood,
unable to enjoy stuff,
always fatigue
hard time to remember stuff.

After  working out and good diet.  Pain has improve.

stiff feel ****.

I am only 23.

Than the freaking HIV fear happen 3 months ago.

Messed my mental brain up.

Because of my 14 week HIV Neg, I am more relax, but still having problem.

The only suggestions I have would be to make sure that you are hydrated before you run. I'm also wondering if lack of oxygen could be your problem ? I've heard of people getting headaches after sex because they tend to forget to catch their breath and breathe.  = )   You may want to try some breathing exercises and see if that helps.

Good luck !

So, why were you diagnosed with cfids?

What are all your symptoms you are trying to sort out?  You've mentioned other symptoms beyond tired after exercise.  If you'd like ideas, then list everything in one place so we can get a clue....

Hey, Yes I had my HIV fear, and at 3 month it was non-reactive . So neg.

So I stop worrying about that and started enjoying my health.

Anyways, my doc diagnose me with CFIDS about 3 years ago.

I do not think it has to do with food or anything.

Any test I can take ?

I can't imagine running several miles with the Fibro I have.  I am lucky to walk into a store for 20 minutes without feeling severe pain.  Were you Dx'ed with Fibro?  Or CFS?  You need to check with a doc and get a diagnoses before you can know what is going on with your body.  I know it took months with the symtoms and pain before my dr. dx'ed me with fibro.  I would suggest you see a rhemotologist or another specialist before you decide what you have. Sounds like you need a good Dr. to dx you and your problems.  Good luck!

Over time you've posted bits and pieces and on various forums.  Can you post your whole set of concerns at one time and let us see if someone can give you some good ideas?

Also, did you ever get the HIV test you were worried about?

Fatgue after 2-3 miles running is not cfs/fm, unless you were a super athelete (such as Michele Akers) where 2-3 miles was chicken scratch.

Something's obviously on your mind that you keep posting over time.  Please let out the whole picture and hopeful someone here can help.
