fibromyalgia and car accident

I'm looking for information that show's that fibromyalgia can't be bumped into high gear after being in an auto accident. I used to say I wonder if it can be bumped into high gear but I'm living proof that if does happen. My accident was in December of 2004 and it's almost 3 years later and I'm still fighting pain every single day. I had somes aches and pains before the auto accident but I feel like a fool for complaining about that kind of pain. I've been asked by attorneys on a scale of 1 to 10 how bad was the pain after the accident. The short answer was there isn't a number on any scale for that kind of pain. I was at a dead stop when I was hit by a driver who lost control of his SUV. I was also in a SUV. The policeman told me the other driver was going somewhere between 35 to 45. I didn't hit anything in the car but mainly it was being thrown back and forth.
Thank you for any help you can provide. Sunny50

Thank you! I have posted previously asking about this, I was in a wreck in January '13 and have had trouble ever since! Justification that I'm not alone helps me get through the day

Just wanted to say i was diagnosed with fibro in 1992 as part of a package of autoimmune problems from silicone implants.  managed quite well for ten years (had the leaking implants taken out in 1992) I was then rearended in 2002 and the fibro pain intensified by 80%.  t-boned in 2003 and have been in living hell for almost five years now.   Absolutely, without a doubt, auto accidents can set off fibro or make it much more severe.

It's a very common story for FM to be triggered by car accidents, and for an accident to make it much worse.  I assume you're looking for stuff to send your insurance and that you are trying to prove the accident was a major precipitator.  Most literature from reputable FM organizations, the CDC, NIH, and major hospitals all list accidents as a major known trigger.  I don't know if you are close to a center with medical journals where you can look for studies on it, but there are bound to be a bunch of them (even on accidents increasing and not just triggering it.)  It may be worth an online pubmed membership so you can get to most of the same research from home.  I did a bunch of research for my insurance company so that the attorney would have something to quote.

I've talked with a number of people over the years that had some FM that got worse after an accident, and then had another accident and it got worse, and then a 3rd one that put it over the limit of tolerable or being able to work.  ...ase I said it's such a common story, there's got to be data out there.   Good luck.  Let us know what you find!

I was diagnosed with fibro in 1993 and then came upon various information about it.  One of the medical pamplets I read said that it was seen in women ( at the time mostly women were diagnosed with it) who had been in car accidents.  It also said it was seen in people who had large doses of antibotics and surgeries.  I had all three wihin a couple of years.

i don't have any concrete proof but I was in 3 car wrecks between ages 14 & 22. Two were sort of fender-bender types but with some force and the 3rd , i was thrown out of a PU and it landed on me at age 17.  This happened long ago and i already had spinal curvature. Since then, even tho i seemingly came thru these with no recognized , severe injury,  I have had L4 surgery, and into my 50' s seem to have developed Fibro. This was not diagnosed until i was about 62 and while i can't claim to be among those with the worst cases ( from what i read ) I have a lot of problems, aching, stinging, feet hurt, legs ach, hips ache, back muscles become hard- like rock, cannot do repetative movement without paying for it  etc.  Arthritis was ruled out by testing , leaving us to come to the conclusion of Fibro. I had some of the tender points but not all. weather seems to affect it at times and there are times that it lets up. I have much more pain at night ( very interrupted sleep without pain meds ) than in the day time when i am moveing, however i cannot stand for long on hard surfaces.  Actually, i can do it but I'm not worth anything for a couple of days after----totally worn out.
